In search of new fish species

Jarhead2, yes I'm in Portland. I would love suggestions on warmouth and crappie. I'm planning on devoting most of Saturday to this endeavor. I might try to hit up Willow Bar soon. Do you fish the river side or the inlet side? It's not too late in the year is it?

In search of new fish species

FishNinja: thanks for the tip. I tried that place out one time earlier in the summer and caught a slew of bluegill but that was it. It sounds like it might be worth another visit...

In search of new fish species

Thanks for the tip on Mirror lake. Bull trout - yeah, that's what i've gathered but have read Billy Chinook lake is one of the few places you can go get them. Fanno is very conveniently located. I've tried it once but the water way really really tiny and I only say one little bitty fish chase...

In search of new fish species

Needs to be on a fly rod. Bottom feeders will be tough. But any locations with some weird ones I'm interested in knowing.

In search of new fish species

Well, that's pretty awesome tips. If i can go there to maybe catch whitefish, perch, white crappie, and suckers I'll be all over it! Those will all be new for me. You fish in Oaks bottom or out at the Willamette river where it connects to Oaks Bottom? Thanks for the tips. I'll probably try to...

    Fishing competition advice needed

A bunch of friends and I are doing a year-long competition to see who can catch the most different species of fish on the fly. I'm still a little new to the Portland area and am looking for advice and suggestions on where to catch some random fish species. What I would love some help on finding...

Not a bad first ever steelhead on the fly

So I'm new to the area and am used to catching smaller trout in the Rockies. Living out in the PacNW now, though, I have to go chase after the big boys. I got my first steelhead over the weekend and was surprised with my luck. I didn't get a measure on it, but I am guessing ~32". I think...

    Fly box preference?

My preference is the magnetic flip open foam ones that don't latch shut. Some people prefer their fly box to be waterproof, but mine never get wet so I prefer them to be easy to open. What I love more than anything is the new style inside where the foam is slit for each fly. It makes putting...
