I run 12lb P-Line Flouroclear for what you are doing now, which is tossing spinners in super low water. Once the fall fish start to come in I run 65lb braid with 40lb Maxima UG leader. Springers are leader shy at times but fall fish don't care one bit. I used to run 25lb leader but after having...
Three River is closed until October 1st from the hatchery down to the mouth, so that's a no go for any species. The Nestucca is open for steelhead and trout right now up to the deadline at Elk Creek and open for Fall Chinook below the Cloverdale Bridge. No bait allowed above Moon Creek (also...
I can guarantee you it hasn't been the worse run ever recorded for coastal systems. Just sayin...and they are all hatchery fish which JonT thinks should all die.
LOL...I just know realized that you must be a teenage boy going through puberty. I know things can be very complicated during this time, but they will get better, I promise.
Yeah, 4 drift boat trips with only 3 fish landed (2 hatchery & 1 native) is not the best but I can't complain. I've talked to a lot of people that have been getting skunked every time out. Good luck if you make it out again!
We drifted from 3 Rivers to Cloverdale but we didn't start that drift until about 8:30. The keeper we landed was from a little sneak and swoop first thing in the morning, then we went and dropped the boat in. We watched a guy land one at the mouth there as we were putting in. The pod of light...
I also drifted the Nestucca on father's day. We ended up getting 1 fin clipped springer and released a native. We found a pod of fish and went 2 for 4 with another 8-10 missed bobber downs. I may have been fishing next to that guide and he lost 4 just down the river from us and after my 6th...
Nice fish! I camped over there the last week of July and I hooked and lost one a spinner in that same hole. Then I walked down a little ways and hooked up again, this time on a bobber and jig and bonked a big ole 9lb buck. It was absolutely delicious on the bbq that night :)
I wouldn't say that at all. I know of a lot of people that have been killing the summer steelhead on both the North and South forks. And I'm talking about 5-6 fish a trip with a slow day consisting of 1-2 fish :)
If I was you guys I would go up to Moonshine Park on the Siletz. It's about a 45 minute drive from Lincoln City and there's plenty of trout and definitely some summer steelhead around. You could pay the day fee and fish at the park itself or drive up into the gorge and find a spot to pull over...
Thoughts?
Instead of using just a corkie and yarn use some bait (eggs, shrimp, sardine, tuna, etc.). I have never had much luck at all fishing artificials for springers. If I didn't have any good bait I would be tossing spinners or swinging spoons.
