    Summer steelhead on the Wilson

Beautiful afternoon on the river. Bringing home a nice one for dinner! That's mostly my blood in the cooler, sucker bit me pretty good.

    Fishing around Roseburg?

Thanks for the info, guys. Good guess on the hotel! Checked the regs, South Umpqua is closed until 11/30. Looks like River Forks and Cleveland Rapids aren't too far out of the way - I'll try and check out at least one on Sunday afternoon!

    Fishing around Roseburg?

I'm going to be in Roseburg this Saturday & Sunday. My hotel is right on the Umpqua. I'll probably have a couple hours on one or both days to fish if it's worthwhile. Is it worth throwing my gear in the car this time of year? Thanks!

    Wilson conditions

There are pull-outs all up and down hwy 6. Most of them will lead you to fishy spots. Also, this map is helpful: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=105721876723713412453.000478855cacc93aa5af6&ll=45.584972,-123.518257&spn=0.067517,0.217323&t=h&z=12

    Store bought cured salmon/steelhead eggs.

If I recall correctly, there's only one brand at Fisherman's - D&G Guide's Choice. I've used them a few times. Not great, but better than nothing!

    Wilson conditions

Thanks for the info, guys. Wound up skipping the Wilson and staying closer to home on the Clackamas this afternoon. Definitely planning on getting out there Monday or Tuesday!

    Wilson conditions

Thinking about a quick trip to the Wilson around noon today. Level looks good, 5.58 and dropping, but they seem to have discontinued collecting turbidity data about 3 weeks ago...

West Linn dock - report progress!

Spending a beautiful day plunking for sturgeon with Mrs. Rob. No fish yet for us or anyone else. They're jumping like crazy, though. Seeing some really big fish break the surface all around us. Pretty cool! Anyone know why they do this? Only other bottom feeder I've seen behave like that is...

    Sturgeon newbie

Sounds like you guys had a great day out there. Really cool that your dad was able to bring in his first sturgeon! We wound up changing plans a bit and heading to Kelley Point Park. Didn't have nearly as many fish as you guys, and none bigger than the one in the pic, but still had a lot of...

    Sturgeon newbie

Thanks for the tips! Rigged up as you suggested, worked like a charm. Not much different from the Carolina rig I used to use for cats back east.

    Sturgeon newbie

Hey guys, taking my wife out for sturgeon tomorrow and looking for some tips. We used to plunk for catfish all the time on the Potomac before moving here, but don't have any experience with sturgeon. We have a couple of 10-foot spinning rods loaded with 30 lb test, pyramid and egg sinkers...

First steelhead (and second) Friday 2/28

Fished the Wilson yesterday from about 9-2. Started out at Jones Creek bridge and worked my way downstream along the trail. Hit a good looking stretch about 1/4 mile down from the forestry center, drifted past a rock on my first cast, and hooked a beautiful native. Put up an awesome fight...

    First salmon ever!

Haha, no kidding. Had my trout net with me out of habit, didn't do me much good at all. Appreciate the tips, will definitely check out some spots lower in the system over the next couple of weeks. Also, anyone know of a way to get my hands on some eggs, or do I just have to go bag a hen and earn...

    First salmon ever!

I moved not long ago from the east coast, spent most of my life fishing for trout, smallmouth, and catfish. This was my first time out on the Wilson. Didn't really know what I was doing, but got lucky and bagged an elderly looking coho. Definitely an older fish, but was a heck of a good time...
