This is the road around the lake, as of last Tuesday (a week ago today). I parked about 1/4 mile from the resort and hiked back in to Peninsula. Took this just before reaching Camp Ten. This snow was very packed, very deep and very everywhere. Some spots as deep as eight or nine feet...

I remember reading that too. Maybe the best thing to do is get a day permit for squawfish when you happen to be going fishing anyway, and then let ODFW pay you $5-10 a piece for the ones you catch. Ka-ching! :P

I agree with eggs. I've been to Buck twice this year, and it seems it is becoming more popular. Two weekends ago, I drove up to Buck and it was so busy that there were cars parked all along SP210 (probably at least 15-20 of them - this was unusual). I turned around and instead went to Dinger...

My best advice would be to fish very deep and as close to Hoover as possible ideally in late summer.

I agree with everything that all of you have said and appreciate this post. I also venture out into the deep woods alone often and have given this topic much thought as well. I once asked an old timer I ran into in Mt. Hood Nt'l Forest about this (who was not packing heat) and he broke it down...

That's right ... what I meant was that last fall (2008) when I fished there, the closing date was October 31 (Halloween) and wasn't sure if it was the same for this year without checking the regs. But you're definitely right - it closed on Oct 31 again this season and probably does every year...

Yeah definitely give the trusty gold KM a try next time you head up there. I've always done well using those close to the dam when the kids aren't out there waterskiing and doing cookies right in front of me. :mad:

This time we were fishing from the bank tossing out about 100 feet from the shore, plunking off the bottom. jleepga, i know what you mean ... i gave up on going out there during weekends

You've probably already gone out there by now, but I went on Thursday with a buddy and we limited out in a couple of hours. The water level is great for fishing from the bank right now and the crowds have all long gone. :clap:

Its about a mile or two above Idanha. Be careful cuz the actual TRAIL sits about 50-75 feet up the bank as opposed to the goat path that runs next to the water. If you're lure fishing, the river is so clear and shallow right now that the darker and smaller you go, the better I think... Let me...
