2019 Question about controlled hunt application

Chuter, I did a search on CWD (Chronic Waste Disease for any readers who might not know what that is) and salt blocks on another tab. I'll read into it and see if there's a right or wrong way of doing it, and if there are better options. Thanks for the input.

2019 Question about controlled hunt application

Thanks, Siletz! I have been strategizing preference points wrong then. I've been applying for a couple of 600 series a year, and last year both High Cascades and Ft. Rock, thinking that I'd get pref points for each that I didn't draw. Sounds like I was throwing away money by applying for more...

2019 Question about controlled hunt application

Thanks for the input, Chuter! I'm just getting into reading up on salt and mineral blocks (alfalfa, etc) online and still haven't tried setting any out with a camera at this point. I still haven't found a spot where I'm satisfied with a lot of sign and low human traffic. I'm also still learning...

2019 Question about controlled hunt application

This is really good advice. I appreciate the input! TheKnigit: I agree completely with your thought that learning is valuable, and I actually didn’t know that points could accumulate past one year. I’ll have to rethink my strategy. I’m going to take notes on you and Siletz’s advice and start...

2019 Question about controlled hunt application

Wow, thank all of you for pitching in with your advice! SiletzTroutKiller: In my initial post, I inadvertently typed “blacktail”, but I really meant mule deer. I’m still new enough to hunting that I seldom even see a blacktail buck (more than a spike or a doe). At my skill level, a top-notch...

2019 Question about controlled hunt application

I'm fairly new to the draw, and was wondering if there'd be any reason to apply for both the 119A West High Cascades and the 177 Fort Rock for blacktail buck. They're both 100 series, and it looks like the Fort Rock has pretty good odds to be awarded, and 119 (if I understand correctly) is a...

All over Springfield and Eugene, 11/24-25

I did read that post originally, and just read it again when you posted your link. It's a lot of information, and it sounds like you'd still need to (at my experience level) take the temperature at the lower part of the water and the ambient air in the wind to know the difference between the...

All over Springfield and Eugene, 11/24-25

Thanks for the report, NK! And glad we have contributors who share information freely, like PlumberTom and troutdude. Do any of the posters on here, who know Dexter Res well, think that it's cold enough this time of year that the planters would be in deeper/ warmer water, closer to the dam than...

    Tuna off southern Oregon coast?

Hello! Any reports on tuna off of Coos Bay? I've got a charter planned for this weekend. I just want to know what to expect in case they cancel or change the target species. Thank you! James

    Mussel/goose barnacle trip

That's weird that there's such a low limit, since I wouldn't think that anyone even hardly harvests the barnacles. I think the limit for mussels was high because of that (was it 70? could you can them?). Mussels are popular in Asian countries, but nobody hardly eats them here. I've had them in...

    Mussel/goose barnacle trip

Hey, cool! I'd try that. For mussels, do you need a minus low tide to access them, or just know the right area? I remembered that you commented about my earlier questions about mussels from the day that I camped out at Sunset Bay campground.

What do you do with all that fish ?

So, tuna is the exception to the rule of being required to be frozen to kill parasites. "Food and Drug Administration regulations stipulate that fish to be eaten raw -- whether as sushi, sashimi, seviche, or tartare -- must be frozen first, to kill parasites. ''I would desperately hope that all...

What do you do with all that fish ?

I thought that commercial fish boats "flash froze" sashimi grade fish (some varieties, anyway) to an exceptionally low temp to kill parasites. Am I mistaken? I'd love to be able to use fresh tuna for nigiri sashimi! lol @ pinstriper's "bitter half".
