    Transom mount electric trolling motors

I have a "Gamefisher" 36# thrust trolling motor that I got at Sears on closeout about 15 years ago. It has the five-speeds-forward, three-speed-reverse throttle. The speed control is on the top of the motor instead of the tiller which is kind of a pain, but it does have an on/off switch on the...

    Columbia 'Nooks

Good luck! I'm supposed to be heading up there to Chinook Landing tomorrow at 3:00 AM (gates open at 4:30) if my friend gets his new water pump installed today. Otherwise I think I'm going to the mouth of the Lewis in my boat. Good luck again and give us a report when you get back!

Off to the Mouth of the Lewis!

Yep, there's always next time - my father-in-law is itching to get out again! How about this: We were all watching a guy that had dropped out to fight a fish when we notice two people floating down river at a good speed. Nobody was sure what was going on but as soon as the guy landed his...

Off to the Mouth of the Lewis!

I wish I had a photo to post but I got skunked. I took my neighbor with me (my wife doesn't like me going out on the Columbia alone) even though he isn't usually the most patient angler. We saw just enough fish landed to keep him in the boat for most of the tide. We got to the mouth of the...

Off to the Mouth of the Lewis!

I went out Steelhead fishing with my father-in-law Monday. We didn't catch any Steelhead, but I saw enough Chinook being reeled in that I caught Salmon Fever! I've only caught one Chinook in my life, and it was on somebody else's boat. Wish me luck!

    Waterproof cameras

I also have an Olympus Stylus, mine is a 770 SW. I have really enjoyed it. It is compact, nearly indestructible, and goes 30' underwater! It takes pretty decent pictures for a point-and-shoot, especially considering all the lens components are inside the body. I bought a silicone skin for mine...

Does carp work as crab bait?

I've thought about going Shad fishing for crab bait, but never actually done it. I've heard it's the best bait out there. I try to use garbage for crab bait as much as I can. I dumpster-dive at the docks for fish carcasses. I always carry a hatchet to split the heads vertically - you get two...

Does carp work as crab bait?

Any dead anything works for crab bait! :D I've used tuna, salmon, trout, rockfish, ling cod, chicken, mink, beef organs, pork organs, whole skinned lambs, and even a whole skinned bobcat!

How well do fish finders work on pontoon boats, and how to power?

12v rechargeable drill batteries work great for electronics that normally run off car batteries. The only tricky part is hooking up to them, I use two "female" ends from a tab-type connector that I modified slightly with a pair of pliers (don't know what they're called but if you look around...

    Kokanee fishing at Green Peter!!

8-8-09 8-8-09 I got a really late start (hard to get going these days with our 6-week-old son to take care of...) and didn't get on the water until about 10:00. This was the first chance I've gotten to try out the Cannon Sport-Troll downrigger that my father-in-law gave me. I started out...

    Boat names

I've got a friend that sold his commercial crab boat a few years ago. The guy he sold it to re-named it the "After You". That way he could tell the local bar-flies "I named my boat After You" as a pick-up line...

    Crayfish/crawfish/crawdads

If you want to use crawdads catch your own. The ones for sale that I have seen are Southern crayfish. Non-native crayfish are high on the ODFW's list of invasive species!
