Knots to use when attaching rope to a crab trap harness?

Knots to use when attaching rope to a crab trap harness I do not tie knots to connect crab pot lines. The three strand lead core line lends itself well to making three strand loops which I connect with stainless steel “ready links”… see the photo. If you want to try your hand at the three...

    Marine Bandon Fishing Reports

C&C at Bandon, OR… Left Reedsport at 6:00 AM heading for Bandon to do a bit of Dungeness crabbing outside the jaws while trolling for Chinook inside, near the jetty. Due to the full moon; we had a minus tide which is lower than normal and a plus high tide where it was higher than normal. This...

    Long Tom confluence

Wow, that's an old thread... for those looking for any directions I've found it best to visit Google then click on the "maps" link and ask my question. https://www.google.com/maps If you use the search words Long Tom River, OR, you get a map that's rather close to the confluence. Just follow...

Portland area toxic algae in the Willy

Memory sometimes gets in the way of reason; but... wasn't it the blue green algae someone decided to market as a cure-all a few (20-30) years ago? I believe they "harvested" it from Klamath Lake? If so; does this mean the Columbia strain is inferior? Maybe darker or lighter blue or a problem...

    Mckenzie frogwater bassin

Good job; that's what those boats are made for; getting into places that cannot by other means be targeted. 2nd that EOBOY!

    Magnum Gitzets for lings?

Did get to try the Magnum Gitzits on Tuesday and can tell you... nothing much happened. The weather and ocean report allowed us to drop crab pots before 8 then hit a few spots south of the Charleston jaws. We fished 20 to 40 foot with the Gitzit on the bottom and shrimp flies above and did well...

    Braid question

That FG knot looks interesting, but way too many steps for me. If you care to research the no knot finger trap visit Youtube and ues Power Pro Hollow Ace as your search criteria. Lots of videos about Hollow Ace. Another tidbit; the Hollow Ace is only available in 40 to 200 pound test.

    Magnum Gitzets for lings?

Great advice RD... the ocean in a small boat (under 30') is where freak accidents occur. So far this year we have had one "Rogue wave" which was very short and probably 15' tall hit us. We keep a close watch while on the water; if it hit us broadside we could have been in trouble. Instead we had...

    Braid question

All but a couple of my reels are loaded with mono as a backing then Power Pro "Spectra" braid in 30 to 65 pound depending upon usage. To tie on a shock tippet of mono I commonly use the Albright knot or if I'm adding a swivel I use the Palomar; neither have come loose or broken in my use so far...

    Timothy Lake 7/24

Fish is great photos are excellent! Properties on one of the photos say you are using a Samsung SMG-900T (Galaxy cellular phone) also says the camera is 16 megapixels. Is that correct?

    Magnum Gitzets for lings?

Most of the bottom fish we go after are about 1/4 mile off shore and within a mile north or south of Sunset bay. Amazing the concentration of fish in that area. I've read Sunset bay it is a great place to launch a kayak through the 4 to 6 inch shore break. I visited sunset about a week ago...

    Magnum Gitzets for lings?

Bobby Garland originated the Gitzet for Bass fishermen I believe in the late 70’s, maybe early 80’s. I’ve used them for years to drag bass out of hiding and from depth. I found the magnum series to be an excellent bait to use at 30-40 foot, Carolina rigged, during bright sunshine in clear waters...

Ocean/lower bay rod selection for downrigger

After much research with lots of questions and answers I've found the best (most expensive) rods for what I want to do are made by Loomis. There are two rods of interest I've posted a photo cut from the Loomis website with the description of each; hope the photos come out okay. The reason for...
