Steel/trout

So I would like to have a shot at both in the same general area, while taking my sons on an overnight camping trip next weekend.

We will be banking it using spoons, jigs, crawlers and have some PB and eggs just in case.....:pray::(

Which system would you choose the Clack or Santiam? Campground suggestions?

Thanks

People have been having success on the clack lately with spinners and other hardware...

Higher up either of the santiams has been productive.

I'm not familiar with the Santiams. I'm extremely familiar with the Clack system.

The problem with the Clack is that there's no steelhead fishing above the dams (anyone remember the old days when they let them pass, and the ones that didn't got put in a truck?), and there's no camping below the dams.

You can certainly do both in the general area, but there will be some driving involved (not a lot, but some).

Fisherman's bend on the Santiam is a pretty nice campground. Decent campsites, and a paved boat ramp and numerous holes are a 5 minute walk from the campsites. There's no camping but I've heard good thing about fishing the Santiam at the Albany rest stop off of I5. The rest stop also has a paved boat ramp..
