......... in a big way. Hit the river today in hopes of hooking a new moon steelhead. No luck on the lower hole so i headed up river and ran into with a good buddy of mine so we fished the hole together. I've never landed a steelhead on a bobber before ( i love drifting) and i've put in MANY hours this winter with the low water conditions. I've tied a bunch of jigs and got pretty good at it, just not hookin fish with them. I kept telling myself someday that bobber will go down - and a fish will be on the other end. After a couple of hours of drifting and a little bobber fishing i tied a fresh jig on threw it out and down slams the bobber. I was so stoked to finally hook one, and when he went up i thought it was a salmon and then remembered they aren't around here now. Knew he was big right away, man this fish had power! Ran out a few times and i tried to keep him from going downriver all the while praying my line would hold up. What an awesome fight and what a great day! My buddy netted him and i though he was gonna fall out of my little net, never had that problem before.:D Bend a brand new gamagatsu jig hook. Measured at 35 and a quarter inches, kinda dark but i couldn't throw this pig back in. My biggest by far, and a few firsts.
1st fish on a bobber, 1st fish on my new bobber rod, 1st fish on a hand tied jig. I think i might like the bobber a bit more. ;)

Yeah, i went by there on friday and it was mud! Glad i had a little time today, won't be able to go down for a while. Thanks everybody.

heck yeah! I always get stoked on fish caught on my jigs, even if it's someone else fishing them, I don't care, it's still a high.

One for each new 1st. The tug is the drug!:dance::cool:

Not all the memory makers are bright and shiny. :D Good job staying with it!

Nice fish hobster way to go man on some firsts

Sweet Steel!!!!!

I never bobber fished until this year too. It's different but had to adjust from my home river where I always drifted yarn balls. A lot more snags where I'm fishing now. Good job and it's a good feeling when the bobber goes down. Thats a beautiful looking fish. I also caught my biggest hatchery steelhead on bobber and jig. Any idea how much it weighed. Looks like a pig.

Thanks man. Not sure what he weighed, wish i knew. The fillets were huge though, he was a big boy for sure. Had no control over that fish at times, he did what he wanted and i was stoked to land him from the bank (thanks to my buddy's great netting job).

That weight is any where from 15-17 pounds depending on the girth. Straight steel of a life time for that river for sure. Not to many of those in the trap.

Yeah, probably never get another that big from that river, i feel pretty blessed. I was on the skunk for a while down there - nice way to end it!:)

I think you would be suprised. I watched em and talked to the poeple who punch holes in tail/count the fish. Lots of big boy/girl 3 salts. I was there a couple weeks ago and they counted about 15 fish over 33". Watched a big ol brute buck 35" easy try to jet through the 4" gap instead of goin through thr normal gap in the trap... Fish killed its self.

That fish is a beast! Nice work.
