Sandy

I am completely new to salmon fishing, especially on the Sandy, and I am interested in catching my first salmon. I am not asking for your secret spot or anything, but any tips would be appreciated. I know I am doing some things wrong but I don’t know what. I mainly fish eggs and spinners, and have seen fish on them but never had a bite from a salmon myself. I hit the delta to glen otto on saturday, and lewis and clark to dabney on sunday, saw fish, heard fish, and watched them being caught but nothing on my end. any tips on water to look for or tactics to use are appreciated. I have heard so much difference about where Coho hold and what water they like, or when and what tide to fish for them. Hopeful for any tips and all help is appreciated. hope to get out this weekend.
Tight Lines.

For Coho I look for deeper water, slower moving as well. Deep slow runs or tailouts with a big pool. For the Sandy I've had my best luck just below Dabney above and below the bridge or multiple spots in Oxbow. If you haven't tried it yet I recommend picking up a couple twitching jigs, they've proven super effective for me in the past, find deep holes, cast em a little upstream hit bottom and do a slow retrieve about a crank or so between quick upward jerks of your rod as your jig drops back to the bottom. Also Coho tend to be pretty showy, if you've fished a spot well and don't see any rollers move on(MTC), I give spot an hour or so. Some people like to post up and wait for em but unless they're moving thats a easy way to waste a day IMO. They move significantly with pushes of fresh water so if it hasn't rained well recently you better bet is to move to find them.

thanks man, I’ve mostly just been trying spinners and eggs, as I have a pretty light rod for twitching jigs, and also I run a casting reel so they can be a little annoying to try and cast. on Monday I was hoping to hit around Dabney and a little bit above it, I’ll see what I can get into.

I had one at dabney yesterday right at the riffles, he chased from the deep, and ate it right in my face, big old chromed and I didn’t even hook him. more action then i’ve ever had before though.

Hoping to restart this thread. Any success this week? Gave sandy a break but we got a rainy week coming up and I’m wondering if it’ll be worth being out there in the rain. Lmk!

I haven’t been out since last week but the last time I was at cedar creek the bite was off and the fish were nowhere to be found

been my experience my 3 times on the sandy, hoping the rain brings in a nice little run

I was out Saturday, downstream from Dodge. Nothing wanted to even nibble on my skein. I caught a jack on a spinner, but that was it.

I just don't feel like working the holes with a dozen other people around me. I'm hoping this rain and cold will get them active by the weekend.
