I heard lings and cabezon are more active this time of year than any other... but what about surf perch? When are they most active? What about kelp greenling? Pac cods? if someone can give me a low down on the best fished marine species and times of year they are most active I would appriciate it greatly!

The lings were spawning week before last, which makes them real mean.

lings start getting on the bite anytime now, But the big females actually start coming in to spawn around late march and april this is definetly the best time to fish for big lings (florence jetty)....And surf perch ,well mid august around here the perch get just flippen Crazy It's when they come to spawn!!! Greenling not real sure but you can pretty much catch them most of the time......FISH-ON!!!!!!

Thanks! I actually caught a sea trout today (didn't even realize I had it until I reeled in my line after a while so who knows how long it was on there for lol). It was kinda small so I didn't take a pic of it (sorry no "fish porn"). I got him in boiler bay at the state park there. That kelps is a pain in the butt! But if I land one of these lings I guarentee that I will put some up. The weather actually looks pretty nice next week, I'm going to try Newport.

If you get a decent size greenling/sea trout. You should try frying it up. Tasty little fish, males are green/blue and the females range from white/brown/orange. It takes a little bit to get used to a green colored fillet but it turns white as you cook it. You can find them everywhere you have a nice rocky area and they love mussels or shrimp.
