I was thinking about checking out the jetty today ,but first I went to the ODFW to see about any new releases on ground fish and it say's "no retention by boat"but then say's "cabezon retention is not allowed" @ least through the end of march. So is this saying we can't even keep one a day from the bank??? Check it out...

The retention quota was met earlier in the year. It's kinda like sturgeon, once they have been caught it's C&R only.

Edit: Check this out, page 3 second graph.

I believe it should be opened back up Jan 1. It is too bad it's closed, I hooked a beautiful Cabbie yesterday out of Depoe that would have made a lot of tasty tacos. He measured 27 inches and I'd estimate he was around 10 lbs. Great fight too.

around 10# would be a really nice cab.I sure hope it changes by Jan 1, but it's not sounding to good. especially since bank and estuary groundfish are not even included in the quota.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I don't think the groundfish closures apply to shore fisherman. I know this is the case in California, where the Cabezon fishery closes early in the year, but you can still get 'em from shore...might be worth asking about.

Yeah I'd definitely check in to that like sportsmanlio said. I always thought the closures were for everyone, but I'd love to be wrong on this one.

If you check in to that post what you find out.

Call ODFW and get ahold of a Saltwater Biologist, this could probably be the best option.
