So I have fished the Nehalum up by Rierson a number of times and wanted to check out lower river. Drove down there this Sunday. Got to the bridge over Nehalum Bay at 7am, and counted 35 boats on the low tide. That little bay was packed...did not see a net flying. Got in the water above the Falls campground(packred by the way), at 8. Overcast, with sun hitting water here and there. Started out with a few Panther Martins...bronze blades with black with yellow and yellow on red spots. Four casts in got into a 8'" cuttie....but treble hook roughed him up. 80% sure I saved him, but I switched out to a barbless single hook. Nothing makes me feel worse than going to C & R and I f-up the release part! After that day got much better...caught wild cutties all day. Release was easy after that. Fished up to Salmonberry. No pics of fish, but some good pics of water...and the dog!
