Where:
Warrendale, Oregon
Right off I-84 east bound.
Body Of Water:
On the Columbia River below Bonneville Dam.
Fishing Style:
Plunkin with those really, really long, stout C. river fishing rods.
Casting out tuna balls with very large metallic green spin glows.
Using 30-50 pound test mono or braid, and heavy leader in ratio. [40 main/30 leader]
Using 8 to 12 oz. of lead [Teardrop]
Try to get it out 40 to 60 feet
"Segregation" is still happening on our waterways. [Very Sad]
The Score:
1 30+ lbs. Fall Chinook [Black Mouth]
3 Coho Salmon [White Lower Gumline
5 Winter Steelhead [ The Tail]
Summary:
I looked at the paper for the fish counts at the Dam.
I saw thousands and thousands of fish going over. So that was the motivating factor of my trip.
[That and my boss told me they were killing them there.]
I personally tried flipping my homemade spinner with 1 oz. of lead [In-line].
I was fishing down stream from the plunkers. [A probing maneuver]
I also tried to drift fish Corkies and Yarn Balls. The current was too fast and I lost my gear on the first cast.
The people I greeted on way down were silent and poker faced. Maybe they did not speak English.
there was this one gent who was very cordial and forthcoming to me. We talked for a little while about the fishing there then I left.
The boat action was very hot as well.
Hope this Helps.
