I read somewhere that men that have their wedding cancelled by the lady will often go to a favorite body of water and throw their wedding ring in. It's supposed to cleanse the soul or something like that I guess.
I would just be tempted to convert that ring into gas money I guess, but good on you for trying to find the previous owner.
