2024 Ocean Salmon seasons process underway

The process of developing the ocean salmon seasons for WA, OR, and CA is underway.

Very important to the Oregon ocean chinook seasons are the forecasts for chinook salmon returning to CA rivers, looks like we get a look at these forecasts on March 1. Fingers crossed that they are better than last year.

right on, looks like ODFW is providing an update this week on the ocean salmon seasons planning.

They are having a meeting in Newport today hopefully some good news comes from that.

from the meeting so far, no bad news and slightly better forecast for Klamath/Sacramento fall chinook. I am cautiously optimistic that we will get to catch SOME chinook in the ocean OFF Oregon this summer. The key word being 'SOME'.

the coho escapement (spawning) data looks good for last year, I put a red box around the 2021 coho escapement, those are the fish returning this fall. sounds like similar wild coho seasons in most of the coast rivers, hopefully the Siuslaw bumps to 1/day-2/total for wild coho this fall.
