    deer hunting

It's been a while since I have been on the forum (personal things not related to fishing or hunting). But I am getting back into the swing of things. Last Saturday I shot my very first deer. Had a guide with me who spotted the two point across the other side of a ravine. I hopped out of the...

    My favorite place to be!!!!

I was able to get away for a couple hours this morning to fish my raging river. It is higher now than the last time I fished it. I went to the new fishing hole and discovered it somewhat clogged with additional logs, tree branches, and root balls. Fortunately, I had my bait caster rod and was...

    My favorite place to be!!!!

Other responsibilities keep me from fishing every day. I am planning on going out Friday if I can. I've invited some folks coming in on motorbikes from Pendleton to tag along and help me fish my favorite new hole. I hope I get to go and don't have to cancel. If so, my friends will have to...

    My favorite place to be!!!!

Got skunked the other day but went out yesterday. The river was even higher and colder than before. The terrain was pretty rough getting around the swollen banks and had me tunneling through heavy brush. Found some great new fishing holes and they delivered. I caught 3 before I ran out of...

    My favorite place to be!!!!

Went fishin Saturday. The river was very high, roiling, and muddy. Had to treck through water logged landscape to get to fishable holes. Lost lures to new snags but caught two fish right away in one of my favorite places. Caught a nice 10 inch hatchery trout and a beautiful brook. I know I...

That photo looks like the view from on top the Gondolla at Wallowa Lake looking towards the North Woods area (Whiskey Creek, etc).

Sighting in new and old guns

I went to the cowboy shoot with my love and my new Henry's .38 rifle. The shoot judge helped me sight it in good enough for the shoot. With my revolver and my Henry's along with my love's long single barrel pump shotgun, I came in 10th out of a field of 20. Not bad for a greenhorn. Even...

    My favorite place to be!!!!

I am dealing with some sadness in my life right now. Fishing is such a restoring thing to do and it has always been that way for me, even when I was riding on top the shoulders of my grandmother as she fished the same river I now call mine. It allows me the privacy to deal with all of life...

Looking for rabbits and pack rats!

If you have a canoe, head to the Willamette from Albany and drift down along the edge. Put in where you can and hunt along the edge, which is filled with brambles and briars. I've drifted that river with my ex and we never saw any gun hunters.

I would like to start trout fishing in rivers and streams

I love it when trout chase the bait. They also tend to swallow it hook, line, and sinker. Sometimes I get the nibble thing first but usually it's a sudden strike that can jar the sleepiest fisher wide awake. I have at times cut a fish loose that gave me an air-show. Trouble is, they fight...

I would like to start trout fishing in rivers and streams

Wedding rings, worms, and a baitcaster (though a bailed reel is okay). And sometimes just a worm on a hook. I have several different rods depending on season and location. Keep the sinkers lighter than you think you need. Trout are chargers so you really don't need to keep the bait...

    My favorite place to be!!!!

It was really hard to find some holes to fish in. The river was high, swift, and muddy. I got caught in two hail storms but it wasn't too cold. I also found some mushrooms that I gave to the land owner. I did manage to catch an 8 incher that I threw back. I had hooked him in the mouth so no...

How can ya get rid of the nasty flavor in Klamath Lake trout?

I use a vaggie brush on my trout as soon as I get them home. Because the river is a longish walk from the ranch, they don't sit around very long. I love the idea of lemon/lime juice to wash the skin. I'll try that. I also use brownsugar laced cajun spice in and on my trout. A BBQ brush of...

Who has plans for Saturday, opening day for trout!

I am planning on at least walking as close as I can get to a likely very raging river. Whether or not I can fish it is another story all together. I'll take my camera just in case the only thing I can catch is a photo.
