Is there a small summer stealhead run on the applegate? I caught something yesterday, not a winter and not a usual cut throat that I wrangle in. Could have been a big big rainbow? Really did look like about a 3-4 pound stealhead, bright rainbow colors and shaped like a football. Fought like I...
The Umpqua is the most amazing stealhead fishing I have ever experienced in my life, and I fancy myself a damn fine fishermen who has fished many great rivers and streams. On two occasions this year my father and I went out and caught 17 fish on a Tuesday and 19 the following day drifting eggs...
Had my all time best day on the Applegate today. Over a course of about 4 hours I hooked and landed 14 fish over 12 inches, with two 15s and an 18. All cutthroat and all native, hard fighters and jumpers. Never heard the drag on my reel sing like it did today!! Tight lines gentlemen. Been...
I have a couple color combos of rooster tail that I always have success with. Keep themin my box at all timrs and on days where spoons arnt doing it, one of the two will usually produce a fish. Never had a problem with blades spinning, ever but I fish moving water so maybe that's why.
Its all about the swing. I occasionally catch a fish or two casting up stream on the edge of a seam, but 9/10 fish come on the swing, and most at the tail end of the swing when the flutter gets real slow and erratic.
Yup I snapped a quick picture and released her. I don't keep any fish at all out of the applegate, ill harvest fish from the rouge and umpqua no problem, but the gate is my home stream so I turn them all back hatchary or not. My big fish of the year on the gate was a 32 inch hatchary hen bulging...
Im guessing she had just spawned and was headed back down. Was chrome bright, I thought I had a giant rainbow at first until it took off into fast water. Did not have a belly full of eggs though, so ill bet she had just put them out in this hole or in the fast water above/below.
Worked my way from the hatchery park all the way down to cantrell buckly with many stops along the way. Caught 12 legal trout, nice mix of rainbows and cutties. Highlight of the day had t have been hooking and landing a still very chrome 26 inch winter stealie hiding in one of my favorite holes...
First post in the forum! Hit the Applegate this morning on opening day and slayed them. Caught a nice mix of rainbows and Cuttys, one pig but mostly just averaged sized.
