Congrats on the new to you skiff. Here's a thought. I think you'd find a recent 3-5 HP 4 stroke outboard would be, "check to see if it's running" quiet, and very non stinky compared to a 60's vintage motor. You could probably find a used one for less than 1k. On the other hand, a 3-5 HP...

The McKenzie and Deschutes would both be good trout choices in October. With A chance of something else biting your "trout" fly on the Deschutes. I'd go to the McKenzie if fishing from a drift boat. If banking go to the Deschutes.

All the big cat pics I've looked at from Oregon came from the Snake and were Flathead. If you haven't been yet, Brownlee is a blast. I'm sure it's possible for a Blue to be here but haven't seen one so far.
