    Barney Reservoir

True they say that the gate is to be locked, but in the last 5 years I have never seen that gate locked. The reason is they are required to allow access to public lands that are surrounded by private logging land. Also, when comming over from Tillamook, you get to Murphys Camp, then the gates...

    Locked out

Take a small spinning rod with ya. Use a #3 Bud Spinner (copper blade or silver blade). Put it right in their face. If you see them backing up as it comes to them, hold on. No strike, do it again and again. They back up a few times, but then get pissed off cause they hate loosing ground and...

    Who's going opening day?

NEVER on opening day. NEVER on free fishing weekend and NEVER when they have a big event (be it bicycle ride, run, etc...). Way too many stupid people. I also never take my kids anywhere near these areas during this time because I teach by example and dont want them to learn the stupid things...

    Fishing tomorrow?

Depending on the river level, I find it better to stay home due to most spots i like to fish have almost no bank access left, espically if the kid wants to come. Not a safe environment for the kid and sometimes even sketchy for me. And I have and hate to drive for 45 min just to turn around.

Bank plunking for salmon and steelhead

I have found that the triangular shape will wedge into the soft bottom and into the rocks without getting stuck like a ball can. And a ball can roll across a soft bottom even in slow current, triangular does not. The flat pancake style also works, but i find the triagular to work a bit better...
