Actually that black bodied spinner with the bent wire was made that way. I put a 45 degree bend so that it won't twist the line when retrieved.

If you're worried about someone breaking your gear, you shouldn't be loaning it out. Let them use something that if it gets broken, it's no big deal. In this case, unless they intentionally broke your rod, I would say it's your fault.

You don't need "snap" swivels. You could use just the small barrel swivels. Sometimes I put them on and sometimes not. Personal preference.
