    Camping trip on the Deschutes

So I got back from my camping trip. For the three days I was there I got to fish for about an hour. Oh well, the kid had a lot of fun. I caught about a 10" trout but that was about it. It was my first time on the Deschutes and it is was a beautiful river.

I am tent camping at the recreation center. My site is right next to the river.

    Camping trip on the Deschutes

Yeah Flybum I have a flyrod on my list of Christmas presents that I gave to my wife. I have wanted to give it a go for a while and finally said that I was going buy a set-up. I am going to be on the east side of the river in the campground, our site sits right next to the river (hopefully not in...

    Camping trip on the Deschutes

In two weeks I will be camping at the Deschutes River Recreational Area and with my family and wanted to do some fishing for trout. The question I the only set-up I have right now to catch trout is a 5'6" ultralight with 5lb line. Is that going to be large enough to fish the river or do I need...

    Kilchis River trout question

Thanks. I think that is probably has a very small trout population. No one I spoke with caught anything large. Do you fish for steel near the bay?

    Kilchis River trout question

So it has been a long time since I posted last. I started fishing last year but with a chronically ill child it was hard to get out a lot. I finally picked it up this year and went out for the first time to try my hand at trout fishing. I was camping on the Kilchis so I had the opportunity to...

    Question about my set-up.

Thanks. I was a little concerned about the line twist on mono (which I already had on the line) so I went ahead with the swivel. I will keep braided line in mind when it comes time to put on new line. I was fishing on Saturday and was trying to check the spinner presentation with the swivel and...

    Question about my set-up.

I just bought a ultra-light reel and want to do some trout fishing in both lakes and rivers (I will be bank fishing). I have #6 line with a 5'6" rod. Is that big enough to fish in the rivers as well. Also I was thinking that I was just tie the spinners directly to the line, or is there a better...

    Question about drift fishing

Thanks for the info. I also had a spincast reel with a spoon tied on but figured before I get to fancy I should learn how to fish for steelhead one technique at a time. The next time I go out there I will probably throw the spoon out a few times. n8r1, I was about a mile west of Jones Creek Day...

    Question about drift fishing

Thanks for the link. I haven't spent a lot of time fishing on the river so I will definitely read that guide. I also meant 1-2' not inches.

    Question about drift fishing

So I am new to steelhead fishing and decided to fish using a technique I had never used for (something about a glutton for punishment?). Anyway so I went out for the first time yesterday and was on the Wilson River and fished for a couple of hours. I think that the water was a little faster...

    Trout rod/reel recommendations?

I am new to fishing for trout and would like some recommendations. Is there any particular rod or reel that works best for both trout and steelhead? I have a Shimano Curado and a basic spinning reel. Can you fish for both with ultra-light or light tackle? Is there any difference in rod length?
