    Salmon 2022 Show OFF

Went out of Roger's Landing on 5-21-22. Took my elderly father out for some bass fishing. Fishing was pretty slow - put 7 or 8 smallmouth in the boat - nothing of any real size - 1 went about 2 lbs and the rest were smaller. Water was a little off color and the current made fishing my ned rigs a...

    Willamette River Fishing Reports 2022

Found myself staring out the window at work - decided to sneak out in the afternoon. Went back to the Willamette. I discovered a couple of things: first, the smallmouth are getting hungry. I think I'm liking these colder-water bass - they all seem to be chunky. I put a dozen or so in the boat -...

    Willamette River Fishing Reports 2022

Yes and no. My "go-to" spot definitely has several vertical underwater drop-offs. That's where we started and got our first several fish. But like I said - we drifted with the current for a significant stretch - catching fish as we went (without significant depth changes).

    Willamette River Fishing Reports 2022

Thanks, Bass and Shaun, for your insights. Yes, Shaun, we were on the main river - starting in a location that has literally never failed me in the few years I have been fishing bass. We did indeed catch most of the fish deep (15-25ft) with the ned. The few fish that hit the cranks were much...

    Willamette River Fishing Reports 2022

Couldn't resist the nice weather on Saturday. I don't have much experience chasing bass in cold water - but thought I'd at least check out the river. I took my neighbor and my father and we launched in Newberg around 2 in the afternoon. The water temp showed between 45 and 46 degrees. My...

    Hagg Lake species

I think I have caught several Channel Cats in the upper Willamette (above the falls) this last year while fishing for Smallies. I'm attaching a couple of pictures for clarification - Aren't these channels? I started catching these more frequently this year - some fairly good ones around 2 lbs -...

    Right place - right time

I have been a pretty consistent smallmouth-chaser for the last couple of years. My 16' smoker craft served me well and put me on some good fish. I usually launch in Newberg and have fished both ways for several miles. This year, I ordered, waited, waited, waited some more, and finally took...

    Willamette River - Roger's Landing

@bass: I have used a drop-shot - I’ve just had more success with the NED. Question: how far between your weight and your bait on your drop-shot set up? I’ve been running about 10 -12 inches - but not sure if that is good..TIA. I might have to try the Columbia....thanks for the tip.

    Willamette River - Roger's Landing

Been chasing smallmouth this week. Have gone out each afternoon for a few hours for the past three days (Oct 26th-28th). Water temps have dropped and are hovering right around 50 degrees. I've been dropping NED rigs in between 18 and 25 ft of water - seems like the bites are much more subtle...

    Willamette River Fishing Reports

@pdxflyguy: we stick to just off the banks - Friday was overcast all day: in my experience makes for better fishing. I look for cover and rocky drop-offs and such.

    Willamette River Fishing Reports

On the water about 1:20pm. Fished till about 6 with my son. We caught 30+ mostly smallmouth, but a smattering of small largemouth and 2 pike minnows. We were throwing tube jigs and ned rigs. I happened to hook what felt like a decent size smallmouth on a small tube jig, fought it for a little...

    Willamette River Fishing Reports

I enjoy reading the posts of several of the the regulars on OFF. I figured it's time to start updating with my own. Launched at Roger's Landing at about 12:30pm. Water temp definitely on the rise with the nice weather - my FF read between 60 and 62 degrees. Water flow down too. Switched off...

    Willamette River Fishing Reports

@bass. I really enjoy reading your posts. Thanks! I have been fishing out of Newberg all Summer - finally starting to feel better throwing finesse rigs (NEKO rigs, drop-shot, etc..) Have always done fairly well on lipped plugs. Have a question for you - with water temps in the Willy coming down...
