Mobility-challenged man wants to go fishing

I suggest you give the McKenzie River a try. For bait fishing Leaburg Dam, about 23 miles upriver from downtown Springfield on Hwy 126 is excellent for catching trout. Oregon F & G regularly stocks the lake with trout. Otherwise, the rest of the river calls for someone to be in relatively good...

Would I be better off getting a good inflatable boat to fish lakes and give up on the rivers and streams?

Indeed, it's a problem. The lower McK is all spoken for when it comes to bank fishing. Seems every square foot of bank is private property. The upper McKenzie, though, is available. It's just that you need to be a mountain goat—a young one at that—to hike down to it. I guess that's why the...

Would I be better off getting a good inflatable boat to fish lakes and give up on the rivers and streams?

Though I will fish both types of water, I prefer streams simply because the fish have more life in them than lake-caught trout. On the other hand, lakers are plentiful, large, and will produce for fishermen. I live on the McKenzie and fish it with flies. I get my share (I'm a catch and release...

    Good "WADING" flyfishing trout rivers?

Of course, which explains the degree of risk a fisherman is willing to tolerate in order to hook up with trophy trout and steelies. With all my complaining (??) about rocks (above), I fish as much as I can and running over to the Deschutes from time to time is still part of my fishing routine...

    Good "WADING" flyfishing trout rivers?

Oregon's rivers, in my estimation, are generally the least wadable river systems. I fish all over the state and my biggest problem is dealing with rocks the size of bowling balls, which tear my ankles up after a day of fishing, not to mention that the possibilities of getting dunked are high. As...

    Tualitin River

I'd suggest using bigger flies. ;)

Like a rash I'm coming back! Smallmouth in late September?

I usually go for smallies in August and fish a few miles above Elkton, mostly at the Big K. Water is usually low, tepid, and sluggish. We are never disappointed. Lots of fish caught on one or another sinking bug.

    Stream fishing and lake fishing

There's terrific summertime smallmouth bass fishing on the mainstem Umpqua in the Elkton area. I go to Big K ranch once every August and it's great fun. Bring sun block!

    Stream fishing and lake fishing

As a former Californian now turned Oregonian, I really resent all these new arrivals coming in and scarfing up all the fishing in the state. Go back home Ceeyahd1! [I kid! I kid!] Seriously, it's hard to find places where there aren't fish of some kind. Invest in a boat. Bank fishing is sort...

    Bank fishing steelhead

Fattie, if it's the Mac you intend to fish, I would recommend just taking a ride up Hwy 126 and just check out the roadside pullouts between Hendricks Park and Leaburg Dam. There are not a lot of spots which are easily accessible but there are a few. Biggest tipoff is when you see cars parked...

    Angler harassment

The regs tell you everything you want to know about where and how to fish. Clearly, the lady had no idea of what she was talking about. If you had your feet in the water, you were legal, most likely. If it was a public place, same thing. Next time give her a can of sardines and tell her it's on...
