I've done pretty well with the factory hooks on Maglip 3.5 and 4.5. Never saw much reason to swap them. A buddy runs a couple with single hooks, and I can't say I've noticed much difference.
Been a whole ton of years since I fished it out of human-powered boat. The outlet (D River) isn't an issue -- the wind is an issue. If you can find a place to launch on the east side of the lake (not sure if you can), you'll be much happier getting back.
I don't believe it's a legal requirement to have a rot cord in Oregon -- Washington and California, I believe it is. I've never crabbed at Yaquina (which seems odd for me). But pretty much any of the coastal bays will have crabs with the lack of rain (although I'm guessing Astoria/Columbia sucks...
