I was at Oxbow yesterday for a few hours. Definitely some fish there, jumping and slurping bugs on the top, but no action. Tried jigs, eggs, and spinner with no hits.
Any of the rivers at the coast with a hatchery will work, but I don't know how they're doing right now. Not enough rain to get the fish moving. You might get lucky and find some,
I was there Tuesday and saw a few caught. Probably 15ish lbs. Also saw a RAV4 get stuck.
For the most part it was very slow, but the fish are there, lots of fishing boats out there. I was there 3.5 hours and only saw 2 get landed when I first got there. Lots of crabs stealing your herring if...
Don't worry about waders on that beach. It's steep, so waders only get you like 5-10 feet more into the water.
And yes, the crabs in the area can take all your bait away.
Just make sure you're driving a 4x4 or AWD. Last time we went this long without rain the sand was basically like powder and a lot of people were getting stuck on the beach. Ask me how I know......
@Fattie 4000 You can still use the Ugly stick with a 3000 reel for salmon, steelhead, rock fish, even lingcod.
Everybody fishes differently though, and I would recommend you find a method that works for you. I prefer a 10' rod with waders for surf perch. Some will go with an 8' and shorts.
All sound advice above. Just remember, for surf perch you'll be casting 2-3oz sinkers, so make sure the rod is rated for that much weight otherwise you'll break the rod or you won't cast very far. Anything 9" or longer is ideal. Also make sure you get a decent set of insulated waders if you're...
It's a lovely lake. Recently started looking into kayaks but living in an apartment means no place for storage. Then I head about the Colorado XT Pontoon boat. Your thoughts about pontoons vs kayaks? For one I can't swim, but the idea of a trolling motor on a pontoon is very enticing. That and...
