    Got my circles

I tried EC #4 circles catfishing with the grandsons. We caught 3 and every hook snapped when attempting removal.

Great common carp in Commenwealth today!!!

Carp will also take small lures fished slow as close to bottom as possible. My jig mentor John in PA just sent me this pic of a typical one out his way - other species bite being slow he got about 10 of these in the past week on 4# spinning gear & "Micro Spoons", smallest around 15#. I...

Flossing for the better of fish???

Shucks, couldn't make it to OR this year. Right now its koke season here in CO, meaning they are schooling up at the lake/reservoir inlets for spawning runs up the rivers/streams. Since these fish have other imperatives besides feeding, the preferred traditional method of catching em is...

Not enough yet but getting there

Yup, went and looked & Cabela's has em. Cabela's -- Propeller Style Spinner Blades My mentor uses the small size for the 1/16 jigs. Altho he like the cone heads as a stopper/bearing for the props, he reports that small brass beads also work well and are better able to get around the sharper...

    fenwick rebuild help

Wow, stripping the guides, varnish, reel seat, handle, glue, etc. before even rebuilding is a huge job. I suspect a pro job would be at least double the cost of say a new Shimano Clarus. A white rod tip might be for night visibility.

    Rod add-on

Amount of tip flex does not equate to better casting of light weights if the spring back is slow & mushy. A good rod blank is a balanced integrated unit more likely to be ruined than improved by adding on. Buy a new light(not UL) action IM6 or better - I've noticed decent Walmart rack rods for...

    thinking out loud

Yup, the internet is fertile ground for imaginative scammers. Before I wised up, donated stuff a coupla times to "youth" fishing orgs soliciting through my website. Once product was sent, the parties vanished - no promised donation receipt for tax records or even a thank you email. Last party...

Fishing line that does not tangle?

"kornphlake", 4# test XL is about as user friendly as line gets - it would require serious talent to tangle! Seriously, I would suspect your "older" reel as the culprit - is the line sitting on the spool bulging in an area as opposed to being evenly wound top to bottom? If so, line winding onto...

    Catch and Release...

I agree, give the fishies a break, especially if protecting a spawn. I've observed that many anglers handle released catches too roughly - if possible a fish should not be manhandled out of the water or allowed to thrash on solid ground - in the water hook removals with pliers/forceps works fine...

Fishing line that does not tangle?

Even after 50 years of throwing a spinning reel, still no simple solution to the problem of line tangles. But, I've noticed that the following can help: 1. Larger diameter reel spools 2. Lighter line 3. Limp mono like Trilene XL 4. Heavier sinkers & lures - to assist keeping line tight on the...

    Cheapo Rod

OK, mystery solved. Apparently, new Kunnans are now available. The vintage Kunnans were ahead of their time with stiff snappy actions but the limited technology of the day made 100% graphite rods brittle. I think I snapped the tips off of 2 out of the 3 I had.

    Cheapo Rod

You found a Kunnan new in a store?!! "The Kunnan Co. made fishing rods & blanks as well as golf club shafts. The factory was located in South Carolina. In the early 90's the factory burned down and the company did not rebuild -- so Kunnan rods got very hard to come by." I had a coupla 8'6"...

    uv proven to me

Lawnmowing sounds like an idea. Our senior neighbors pay $15 a pop for their 1 hour yard job. Neighbors, relatives, your friends parents, your parents friends, are some of your potential employers. Mowing skills are easily learned, just watch out for yard muffins.
