Winter steelhead in the Canby Pond?

Impressive fish if they are holdovers, that pond gets really warm and nasty in the late summer. Did see a picture of one of the caught recently by a young kid. So they are in there, doubt they are steelhead though.

Low holers: my experience on the Clackamas

Gear or fly does not matter. People who low hole will low hole for whatever reason whether it be ignorance or attitude. Public land is public and just like the roads some people are going to think they can do what they please. As a Spey caster I have a question for gear people. If you are...

    Fly rods $

I started out cheap and did not enjoy fly fishing that much, although it probably was more of my fault then the rods fault I just couldn't do what needed to be done to put the fly in a location that would hold fish. I then committed time and a bit of money $300 for a nicer set up,6wt, and...

I'm going to end up in a straight jacket!

Well in a straight jacket you can't set the hook, so that could work out good for you. Not the best for safe wading practices though. I like the extra line loop method as well, as it has worked for me. Then a steady strong pull down river when the line starts running to set the hook.

    Trout in the Molalla?

Good fishing there. Just lock your rig and don't leave anything tempting in sight.

    Swingin' Santiam

I have fished around there with my Spey rod. I had skagit with sink tip. I was to deep. On that side of the river I would go traditional summer set up with a Spey rod. So floating head. River is wide there and deeper along river left so be prepared to wade out a bit. Tight lines.

    Saturday!

By the power lines? Isn't that private property? If not then I guess I don't have an excuse to use my machete. Is it shallow enough to get across to the gravel bar "island"?

    Saturday!

If you start trying to find the mouth it is easy to get turned around a bit. The "trail" is not marked and from what I can tell not official. The area at the mouth is wadeable but you could stay dry as well. I would not hike in waders to many stickers. Trout up in the corridor are fun. Easy...

    Saturday!

Bring a machete, don't know the legality of that. The trail to the mouth is overgrown if not almost invisible. You can get turned around a bit so be aware of that. Once you get there it is a good spot.

Need info on John Day River

Service creek to tiwickingham can be floated in a day. Guided it in rafts with a family camp, unfortunately wasn't fishing. Smallies are fun on that river with poppers if conditions are right for some fun top water action, I used my fly rod.

    Avoiding swimmers...

Went up just past the trailhead with the bathroom where all the horse trailers park. Wondered around. It is good water just didn't wake up early enough so it was sunny and clear water. One of my favorite spots had 3 cars in it so I skipped it.

    Avoiding swimmers...

Hit the upper Mo today. Got up late so not much shade on river and blue sky made for not a lot of action. Almost needed a sinking line and target some of the deep areas on such a sunny day as today. But it was a nice way to start summer vacation. Managed to dredge up one by adding a few more...

That is what I was thinking just wanted to check. Thank you much.

    Avoiding swimmers...

So with the weather heating up and schools out for the summer, I am trying to figure out where to fish tomorrow. Should I try Upper Molalla or will that be jammed? Suggestions with in an hour of Canby? Read some reports of Butte Creek or that area? Thanks all. T.

Opinions wanted, not a thread for huggy lovey lets get along crap

I would say those gear lanyards that people wear around their necks. People see that and assume all of us are wacky and tricked out on gear. Now I love my gear don't get me wrong but do they really need all that stuff instantly accessible? I Do love tying me some foam fly patterns though, but...
