Went to the Wilson and stood in the downpour today...

just to practice my steelhead swing. I took a class with a local guide/instructor over the weekend to get the mechanics down and wanted to keep up the practice. So, i had the day off and headed down to the river. I had no expectations of catching anything and wasn't planning on it.

Man did rain and blow.

Fine practice weather though. So, i was at the river by the boat ramp and old burned out guide shop. Happily swinging away and then it happened....

I caught a fish.

Unfortunately it wasn't a steelhead. Not surprised though.

A nice 13" cutthroat. On an orange leach. Then i caught another, 15" this time. I was pretty happy at this point. lol. Then i caught an other something that promptly broke off my fly.

At this point i called it good. All in all a good day of just practice.

LOL! No joke. I'm gonna start 'practicing' more. Of course it seems like all I do is practice....

But for you, if you can catch nice cutties on practice, start fishing for trout on the Wilson and you'll probably hook up Gungas-style and latch a steelhead on your trout setup.
