Study break steel

Well, My girlfriend and I studied for the majority of the day today with intentions of going and hooking a few trout in the Marys river above Philomath in the evening as we did the other day and hooked a few nice cutties..It got to be around 5 and we decided we needed to get out of the house so we headed towards Philomath again, only this time I decided we should probably just drive the extra 15 or so miles to the North Fork Alsea.. I knew the pressure would be light with it being late in the season and with the water clarity very clear. We didn't luck out right away as someone was at the bridge hole so we passed and observed the fish at the hatchery. Something i'll always enjoy doing. We then proceeded to make a couple casts downstream while I'm eagerly telling my girlfriend if we can only have that bridge hole to ourselves it will be fish on.... 15 minutes later we headed back down towards the bridge and there wasn't a soul in sight.... With only an hour left of light we rushed down the trail and tossed out some jigs...My girl does a pass through with no bobber down and I follow her with a 1/16 Cerise&Purple Jig ...Bobber hits, drifts three feet, and bobber slips under in a hurry.. I set the hook into a bruiser of a hen and politely hand my pole off to my girlfriend. A couple bulldogging runs and some acrobatic behavior before we get her in....Normally I wouldn't keep a fish in this condition, but she'll smoke up just fine. We only took a few more casts after that, and should have took more considering there was a decent amount of fish jumping around. Oh well, Another solid day in the books and that's all that matters...

Tight Lines:cool:

Under the Bridge

:)My Son and I where under the bridge for 3 hrs Sunday Morning, and I had a nice fish on until the line broke , it hit on a black jig
The Son was using a black KCT spinner and man did he hook a Big one , 3 jumps stright up , and next thing you know lure goes flying by his left ear !!
Fish where in there ,ever 30 mins or so one would jump , At least I had a hook up

Best study break of a life time right there. Well done brother. And nice fish!

Thanks all! Nothing like getting into a steely when you really aren't trying .. haha. Getting stoked for summers and springers. My buds on the Clack and Sandy are already hittin' 'em on the regular. Spring break needs to get here fast!

Yup, before we left they were jumping a handful at a time. I bet there was 50 fish in that hole...They just stack up in the deep water against that shelf... I'm sure there is a few nice ones left considering we were catching some in the lower river with sea lice on 'em a few weeks ago, but for the most part I'd say it's bout over.

Nice fish, I'm still catching some bright ones and it's not over not even close. :)

Lol. Well, it's over according to what Im use to...Up in the PDX area right now the winters are peaking with summers trickling in...If only our coastal rivers had a summer run to transition into...

Went back to the alsea bridge yesterday , and Son got a 24" or so hen , really full of eggs , no so good looking
Had a Big one jumping around, Another guy had a big dark one on but lost at the shore
Did see one nice bright one jumping around, might go back again
Wayne:)

If you want to hook more than one or two fish in this gin clear water downsize your leader! There are chrome fish in there, we took out three a few days ago. :D

I,m running 6# leader right now ! how much lower should I go ? ! So are you taking out a bag of trash a day to ? man they trash that place under the bridge
Wayne

Normally 6 lb is light enough but the water is very clear now and the flow is slower so they have plenty of time to see what you have coming down. If you have the rod to handle 4 lb its worth it. I would suggest a 4-8 lb or 6-10 lb rod at the heaviest for the very light leader. For some reason there seems to be a big difference between the 4 lb and 6 lb in gin clear water. We have fished pods of fish and watch them move out of the way of 6 lb and sit and not move for 4 lb. We hooked 10 in the afternoon last time!
