Who needs springers when you have (EARLY)summers!? Ha ha j/k I am very much in springer mode right now! But decided to check out the home river to kill some time after I got off work today. Didn't feel like driving far to try for springers. Was not expecting any action, but more to get back in sync with the river. But ended going 1 for 2 in just under an hour! Started by throwing spinners and hook up but eventually pops off (first fish I've lost on a siwash ) looked to be a slightly smaller fish. Switched to bobber/JIG and few casts later I bank a beautiful cookie cutter (was exactly 27"). Got really lucky. Right place, right time...

Good job Brandon! I been thinking about fishing local, but the numbers just didn't seem to justify it.....
I have hooked up by the first weekend in April for the last several years though....its time....

Nicely done! Bet thats one tasty fish...

Ill have to start fishing for steel again, now that there closer to town.

Thanks guys! Yeah was expecting no action at all, but figured it was better than sitting at home ha ha. By far the earliest summer I've landed. Never even hooked one in march before. Before this girl, earliest summer fish I've landed out there was April 4th... Figured I would try and beat Tanner to the punch cause I knew he has gone out a couple times trying to find one! Ha ha jk

Damn! nice work on that home chrome, dude. Looks like a hen, were the eggs pretty undeveloped? Just wondering if it was one of those winter strays.

Best,

Thanks! it was Def an early summer. Looks like she just started to develop them. The skeins were tiny and the eggs were super small and hard.I have heard of the rare winters that come here by mistake. Never seen one caught though personally on that river. I see pics of them being caught though out at Dexter though much more frequently...

Sweet! Glad to see you getting some action, i know the Slaw didn't't treat you so great this year (or most of us). You musta been stoked to hook that fish, awesome job on gettin an early one!

cool, but I'm not done with the winters yet  nightmare jig or a wooley bugger ?

Very cool! I've heard of the occasional winter being taken more up at Dexter too.

One other cool thing about your summer fish, looks to be non-clipped (legal to take of course), but I've never caught one myself. So you get a rare early summer run and on top of that, it's a rare un-clipped fish! Unbelievable.

Good job and thanks for the pics,

Yeah I'm almost positive it is just a mis-clipped fish. It did have a very small adipose, but it looked too small to be full on adipose. I have seen a couple other mis clippers get caught in the past as well. I did mark it as "wild"though on my tag...

Yeah, kind of a hard call on the pic, but you did it right.

Ha ha yeah I was thinking that too. Slaw has been weird to me. It's like every other year it kicks my butt! Ha ha. Last year I did really well out there so I should have expected to do crappy this year ha ha. I was starting to doubt myself a little...
