So I tied an egg loop knot and was told by the guy at fisherman marine to hook it a certain way but I forgot. Which part goes in the egg loop???

I usually go through the tail and up through the back then extend the tail and slip it in the egg loop. Has worked great for me and even better with a trailing hook. One of my favorite setups on coastal rivers.

Been fishing all morning on the Columbia and not a bite. There are 6 other dudes fishing as well and haven't gotten a bite. I've googled pictures of hooking the coon shrimp and think I've got it. What poundage leader is appropriate and does it have to be fluoro??? It kept getting tangled with my rig set up 8lb fluro so put on 10 lb mono. ? Ideas suggestions??

Are you plunking or fishing under a bobber?

Plunking. I was using a 4 oz weight and still seemed to b drifting.
I have 30 lb braid on main line. Slider swivel with 4 oz weight. 6ft leader at first which was flouro carbon 8# with spin and glo and it tangled at times a real pain!? Would a 3 way swivel b more efficient??

I usually plunk with heavy gear and use a spreader for the line to the weight and leader. My setup is also more to overpower the fish when plunking because of barbless hooks now on the Columbia. I went with my old setup earlier this year and lost 8 fish on barbless. For steelhead I was using 20lb. P-line CXX and 17lb. flourocarbon leader with 10lb. on an 8oz. pyramid weight. Only once did I have to up it to 10oz. because of strong current. Also started tying a trailing hook set up and had more success. Plunking isn't usually my thing unless I don't feel like hiking or want to switch it up. Also use this setup on winter steelhead on the Clackmas when it's too high and fast. Haven't plunked for salmon yet this year but will use heavier line on Chinook if I go.

What do you mean barbless hooks now on the Columbia? I was fishing it this weekend with 2/0 octopus hooks with barbs? (the guy at the fisherman store recommended that)
But a spreader would be the way to avoid tangle instead of a 3 way swivel? Using a slider swivel for the weight directly to my main line???

Starting this year was barbless hooks on the Columbia. I don't tangle too much on spreaders.
