Has anyone tried float fishing for rock bass in Newport off the south jetty? Or is jigging a better way to target these fish ?

I fished there a couple times, mostly used jigs. Probably the most productive, I was also wondering if anyone had luck with float fishing. Next Time i'm fishing there i'm going to try float fishing.

My son's girlfriend caught a nice black rockfish with a half herring under a float. They were targeting ling cod off the rocks down in Curry Co. and I had never heard of catching rockfish that way. So, it's possible and I'd like to try it also. That said, jigs are pretty standard.

I was thinking about useing a regular salmon float set up only moving the weight to the bottom of my leader then setting my bobber knot so the weight was about a foot off the bottom and rigging the hooks on my leader with herring and sandshrimp. Just let it bounce around out there by the rocks and see what happens! :yikes:
