Deschutes river steelhead fishing

Is it too early to target steelhead on the deschutes by heritage landing? I know those crazy smolts are out and about. Thanks in advance to your replies.

I've never been there, but according to ODFW tag numbers, July looks to be the time below Sherar, with August and September the heaviest months.

Look at the numbers that are coming over the The Dalles dam when the numbers are good some of the steelhead pull up in the lower river.
