I was down by my pond and noticed a 2.5" caterpillar on a leaf. Curious how long it would take for a fish to attack it, I threw it between some lily pads in open water. Interesting was its motion as it tried to swim to the nearest pad leaf:
it arched at its center and straightened over and over. The same action is one I apply to my wacky rigged short sticks hooking them in the middle with a light jig. Of course, there are may shapes I came up with - ALL that have caught fish in different colors - including clear plastic. The imparted action is a rapid body/ tip quiver that triggers strikes.
Short Senkos can produce the same mid-section bend when twitched mid depth rather than let them sink slowly.
Nature teaches us if we pay attention.
