(Bait) Anyone ever use.......?

I have some different frozen baits I would normally use for crabbing, like shad and mackrell(spelling). I know there is a shad run in the columbia sometime, but has anyone tried these baits when there is no run going?
I normally take a good selection of baits with me.
I was going through my outside freezer and found this stuff and thought I'd give them a try.:think:

I probably wouldn't use it as my primary bait but if you got it bring it. I've heard of people catching fish on Shad when it's out of season. Mackrell's are pretty oily so they should work too.

yeh, put the shad on with a 9/0 hook ought to get you a nine footer.

We were using shad strips and smelt yesterday and did just fine on the shad
