Alton Baker canoe canal fishing reports

NKlamerus
Guess it has been awhile, traffic is a mess right now because of the track meet, MLK is closed and rerouted through the autzen parking lot.

Fished 430-7ish and caught 17 trout, 3 bass, and some brim.

One nice kicker bass at 4lbs 6oz.

Bluebird sky with no wind all afternoon.

Maybe I missed a trip?

I made a run yesterday to play around with my new Swimbait rod, definitely close to matching the hatch.

Lots of trout around, bigger bass must finally be down deep.

That's crazy how closely that trout matches you new swimbait

Had some fish follow and nip at it but just wouldn't commit. Hardest part is keeping the birds away!

Spent another day testing swimbaits, but could resist throwing for trout and bass as well.

Had another good follow, but she wouldn't commit

Fishing is s.l.o.w out there, conditions were blue sky and dead calm, water is crystal clear and already pretty dang cold

I made a whole run from the launch to the i5 bridge and caught 2 trout in the heavier current, never even saw a warm water fish

Tried to fish here yesterday, ended up getting in a fight with the parking lot attendees, they wouldn't let me into the empty parking lot, 10 hours before the game, in order to access the canoe launch or dog park.

So I went today, it is extremely low but there is thousands of trout, they definitely went heavy for the free fishing weekend

Explored the back of drive of the canals and ended up finding the still water frozen

Ended the trip with 23 trout in just about 2 hours
