Alton Baker canoe canal fishing reports

NKlamerus
First time out on the water in 4-5 weeks now. Lots of new gear in the kayak which was nice to test, but I was definitely under-prepared for the cold.

ODFW recently stocked all of Alton Baker Canoe Canal but the fish weren't having it, I caught 1 decent sized one underneath the concrete bridge at the first spillway, and lost it at the boat as I raked my brand new celilo trout rod against the metal grate and self tapping screws on the bottom of the bridge..... Dug real nice down into the fiberglass blank.

Nice day other than the cold, 6-7 people fishing the duck pond with no success as well. Water is 1-2' of vis, less in the creeks.

It was COLD out there! My thermometer on board with me read 36 degrees, wind picked up on the way back in and it only got worse.

One small trout, other than that just dirty high water! Figured the lack of rain for a week would help but it's dirtier than last time

Way more beaver activity. Trees down and fresh cuts on others

Not sure if there was a game or what but I was barely able to fish it, I circled the parking lot a few times and had to wait for a spot.

Nothing! Didn't make it all the way up like the last few trips, the water is probably the lowest, or close to it, I've ever seen it. And still pretty dirty.

2 other guys in a boat, 2 more on kayaks, 1 on the bank, and another in a canoe, none of whole had a caught a fish either.

I know they (roaring river hatchery, desert springs no longer does it) stocked it this week, not sure if they follow the same map as ODFW.

I wish!

Just couldn't resist the sunshine. I've got my first light sunburn of the year, get those first few trips in and it's much easier from there.

15 minute stop yesterday between errands, water came back up!

No trout though, no one has been able to answer whether or not roaring river is stocking in the same places where ODFW or desert springs was

Let's not talk about it...

I haven't had luck at Alton Baker the last month. Only place I've caught any Rainbow, was at Junction City Pond. Got 2 today!

ODFW has officially taken over from Roaring Rapids. Which mean the fish are actually getting stocked, and at more than one location

They stocked it last week for sure.

I'll probably fish it tomorrow afternoon

No trout but I SMOKED some bass! Parking lot was slammed, had to wait for a spot to park and carry everything across.

6lb 1oz
5lbs 5oz
4lbs 6oz
And 3lber

I'm sure these are the same fish I have caught in years past, but I'm having trouble lining up the lateral lines.

Testing out the larger Zman craw, needless to say the fish loved it!

Had my first run in with a Karen, claiming it was private property and I was "catching her fish"

I kept it civil and explained she probably shouldn't have bought a house against one of Eugene's largest parks, it's literally a public canal with 20+ other SUPs and canoes on it this evening, but she singled me out because I was fishing.

I've been fishing there steadily for 3 years now, but she doesn't recognize me, it didn't bode well when I asked her if she was blind, I'm pretty hard to miss!

I'll definitely be fishing that same spot, maybe for even longer now. Might have to enjoy a decent lunch out there one day, maybe spend a few hours tanning in the sun

I'm great friends with the neighbor directly next to her, I've met most the homeowners along the whole park at this point.

Some recognize the boat, some knew me from Jerry's when I worked there

I know Jerry's fairly well. Springfield, or north Eugene?

Those are some quality fish!

I was technically corporate, but worked on the floor at both stores as a merchandiser.

I handled new and old sku facings for tools, windows/doors, bath/kitchen, decor and garden

Worked on the safety committee and saw some pretty crazy stuff

They are losing employees left and right currently. Hiring new people for close to the same pay that the Jerry's veterans are making and refusing to pay more

Trying to look better than menards, but budgeting like an ace hardware.

I am on both sides of business. Running a small family owned business, while also keeping my day job.

Trying to keep salaries equitable in both cases ...

ODFW has finally taken back over the stocking, and imagine that, theres the trout!

17 total in about an hour. Water hus jumped a foot easily and it's murky but not terrible.

They refused to eat anything that spun, a mini rattletrap was the key.

One bass as well.

Been awhile since I have made my way out there, another EMS? Game tonight so the parking lot was slammed.

2 bass and some tiny trout.

Big bass went 6lbs 4oz, same fish from a month ago probably but 3oz bigger.

Noticed some crawfish antenna sticking out her throat.

She bent my plastic ketch board.

Almost a month!

Fishing is still good, landed 4 bass, about a dozen trout, and a real healthy brim

Tons of cottonwood seeds, really not fun to fish through

Caught "Wilma" again, 5lbs 4oz this time. She was 6lbs 1oz in April so she's dropped 13oz in 2 months (left) and yesterday (right)

2 smaller chunky fish as well

Loads of trout, it was nearly every cast. They wanted that baby rattletrap burning pretty fast
