    Siltcoos and Tahkenitch

To all those that I have offended, I sincerely apologize. My rash statement should have never appeared on this thread. I really feel bad for causing such discussion and it will never happen again.

    Siltcoos and Tahkenitch

Heading to Siltcoos the 22nd, and it's supposed to rain beforehand. Go ahead and bash me, but why in the world would you want to take a pitbull fishing let alone own one? They are a breed that should be exterminated. Sorry for the possible hijack, but it raises my hackles.

    Siltcoos and Tahkenitch

Once again, a slow website. Due to some medical concerns, I won't be able to take my annual first of November trip to Siltcoos. But, the good news for me anyway, is that I going in the middle of October. It's weird, the best luck I've had has always been in October. I drag purple hotshots like...

    Searun cutthroat.

Used to catch catch searuns at Siltcoos in the gap between Booth Island and Fish Mill on nothing more than trolling a white flatfish with red spots. They would hit and leap five feet in the air. Good fun and good eating. Timing is of great importance and so is luck in being there at the right time.

    Best trout recipe

Oh, I forgot. Just got back from BC and had a Cajun grilled halibut fillet with mango salsa. It would work excellent with large trout. I will experiment and pass it on.

    Best trout recipe

Wow! I am going to try this. Always looking for something new and this sounds great. I wish I could remember my Cajun Trout Meniure (spelling?) recipe with toasted almonds. Give me a couple of days and my brain cells may kick in.

    Grouse gunners?

Oh jeez, when I used to hunt, ruffed grouse were one of my favorites for starting off bird season. I used to hunt the abandoned logging roads behind Three Lynx up the Clackamas. Many years ago, lots of fun, and lots of birds. We used to combine it with shooting band-tailed pidgeons out of an old...

    Bass Recipes.

I just thought of a favorite called Perch Creole. You can use crappie or bass as well. I wrote this down years ago and it is delicious. Makes great leftovers as well. 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 cup chopped onion 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper 1/2 cup chopped parsley or 1/8 cup dried parsley...

    Best trout recipe

Don't mean to change the subject, but has anyone have a different perch, crappie, bass or catfish recipe? Maybe this should be another thread as I don't want to disrupt this one.

    Best trout recipe

A couple of them and not real professional sounding. Whole bodied trout (but cleaned first - very important) Fry up some bacon. Take the cooked bacon out of the pan and pour off some of the grease. Leave about 1/4 inch in the pan. Sprinkle salt to taste in the cavity of each trout and dredge...

    A Siltcoos Lake moment

Just got back yesterday from a short three day fishing trip to Siltcoos and Westlake Resort. Being an eternal optimist about that lake, I figured maybe this would be the year the yellow perch in the lake would start to rebound. Well, I was wrong. The lake just doesn't look right to me as the...

    Old Fishin Rods

The old bamboo rod in the lower photo looks very similar to one I have. It was given to my dad when he was young and had already been used for years. No markings of any kind and it has the same type of handle as yours. It must be well over 100 years old. I also have another bamboo fly rod that...

    A Siltcoos Lake moment

I have never heard of kokanee being caught in Siltcoos. Just rainbows and cutthroat. The sea run cutthroats used to be a lot of fun and had some good size to them. I do know that there are sturgeon in the lake and many years ago, my wife's uncle hooked one while perch fishing. It never came up...

    Tehkenitch Lake

I remember the cabins for rent at Tahkenitch. A couple were floating cabins and back in the early 1960's, my wife's uncle would shoot ducks from the porch (during duck season of course). This was long before I was a member of the family and went fishing and duck hunting many times with him at...

    What it is all about...

That is what fishing is all about. The majority of people who fish are out for a good time and aren't so wrapped up in themselves that they can't help and give tips to a perfect stranger. It's always nice to come across real sportsmen. Glad you shared.
