    Free Fishing Weekend June 11th & 12th

Question, I was going to take the GF out this weekend and maybe try for a late springer in the slough down around my place. I just saw that this was free fishing weekend...does that mean i don't need to get her a day license/tag? or does she still need to get the tag for salmon/steel/sturgeon?

Bass boats safe on the Columbia river?

My buddy uses an 18ft Lowe for duck hunting that is basically a stripped down bass boat hull. (has a livewell etc.) it does ok on the lower C in most conditions, even loaded down with a ton of duck hunting stuff. It does get sketchy sometimes in rough water though and you don't go anywhere...

    Springers in the Multnomah Channel

Didn't fish the MC...waaaay to crappy. I hit the main river friday and aside from being a gorgeous day outside...not much happening. hardly any boats out and no one was doing anything i could see. i called it when a 20' tree came close to taking me out.

    Springers in the Multnomah Channel

Heading out to fish the MC this weekend and just wanted to verify that there wasn't anything wonky going on with the salmon regs.... This is what i came up with (and expected) for current Willamette/MC regs. Willamette River The Willamette River is open to retention of adipose fin-clipped...

    Late fishing partners...... grrrrrr

That would have happened if he wasn't the only other guy going with me today. He did show up and we got out for a few hours. Pretty darn slow. Talked to a few other boats and nobody had any fish or seen anything caught. Weather was about as good as you can expect for spinger fishing...

    Late fishing partners...... grrrrrr

I should be dropping the anchor right now...... Instead i am sitting here waiting for my fishing partner who left Portland about the time he should have been here. His excuse better be that he drove all over town to find just the right beer and sammiches!!!!

    R.I.P Extreme Marine - Scappoose

Not sure. All i know is she packed it up one day and moved to Texas. She made some killer lures...one spoon in particular that i used for fall salmon in place of the standard Simon Wobbler. Sure wish i had a few more of those. :(

    Plunking on the Columbia river.

Prescott or Dibley beach in the Rainier area. I also hear folks fish off the beach on Sauvie Island though i have never tried it. Frenchman's Bar is another place i hear that does well for bank fishing but again, i have never been there either.

    St. Helens Marina

I still see the occasional person fishing from the docks at the marina. Not sure how they are doing on the "quality" fish like sturgeon though. I think the majority of the (few) folks i see down there are bounty fishing for pike minnows. Sturgeon fishing in general around that area is a lot...

Smoking Salmon - Alder or Apple?

Well, i have certainly seen more than enough support for Alder here and elsewhere to sway me in that direction. Thanks!

Looks Like Another Good Spring Run (predicted)

Pretty much all the fishing in my stretch of the river is done on the oregon side for springers and the washington side of the channel for the fall run. It gets a little "fun" sometimes between the bankies and the boaters off of Sand Island in St Helens as the boaters are anchored in right off...

Smoking Salmon - Alder or Apple?

Having grown up in the deserts of arizona i am a huge fan of mesquite for everything! I figured it might be a bit too strong for salmon, but i am sure i will giving that a try. I have a ton (not literally, but close) of mesquite on the way for pretty much everything else i will be smoking.
