    Endangered chinook

Which was anticipated as a possibility. Theres still nearly 3.5 million fish in their hatchery to be released at certain stages, both below Iron Gate and after its removal. "CDFW’s Fall Creek Fish Hatchery continues to hold approximately 3.27 million healthy, fall-run Chinook salmon...

    Browns

Caught my first brown in oregon this weekend. I went in search of brook and browns to check them off my bucket list, but was not expecting this! Could barely get my hand on this fatty... Caught it on a sz16 beaded pheasant tail, 2wt euro rod.

    Completely New to Fly Fishing

Fish inhale bait like PB, eggs, etc differently than when striking lures and flies. They're more likely to swallow the hook which means they'll most likely die by the time its out and released, even if they swim away, they'll be dead soon. bait belongs on stocked lakeswhere you're catching a...

    Clackamas North Fork?

Steep and brushy from the whiskey creek crossing down to the north fork, 400'+ vertical maybe, and a mile hike on an abandoned road? I've considered hiking up from the lake, taking a kayak over to where it dumps in. but i never do, considering there's a half dozen more accessible tributaries...

    Trout fishing in astoria

“ Above Saddle Mt State Park access bridge (on Lewis & Clark River) • Open all year for trout. • Catch-and-release only. • Artificial flies and lures only.” FYI, Saddle Mountain is gated off at hwy 26…. Closed until further notice due to storm damage and rock slides. Been this way for two...

    Breitenbush River trout fishing

My experience on the North Santiam above the lake was similar to your Breitenbush.... This was back in late October. Zero fish for a whole day and a half of fishing. Saw some massive zombie salmon up there though, maybe that was part of it, salmon presence were pushing the trout out of the...

Fly tying and patterns sharing thread

As a noob, its made fishing all that more rewarding when I catch fish on flies I tie myself. I just started tying this winter as well, with a loaner vise from the father in law. Its a good time, definitely beats vegging out in front of the tv in the evenings...

    Prineville Reservoir water level images

Do they drop it every winter for flood control or is that just the new normal? How much weight will water rights have against stream flows when it comes to filling it back up in time for farmers to irrigate?

Best spots for beginner fly fishing

Yeah, I used to, quite a bit. Since it was so hot this summer and fall, and since i picked up fly fishing, I decided to spend more time in cool streams with the doggos, its easier on them (and me). Honestly, i'm not super missing slogging away up those climbs, or any of the climbs we have...

Best spots for beginner fly fishing

Great post! Thanks! Have you parked at the Deschutes River State Park (at the confluence of the columbia) and ridden the trail up from there, fishing the lower, lower section? Thats my goal this spring, do some bikepacking up there during the stone/salmonfly hatch. I've heard the fishing...

In search of year round creek fishing

How does the black rock branch fish? were there many fish in it back then? I've only fished the branch out of Kings Valley/Hoskins. It was a good time, but kind of slow. at least there's lots of access.

In search of year round creek fishing

Over the course of a 4 day weekend, ending yesterday, I fished the Kalama (twice) Gales, and Luckiamute (southern branch near Hoskins) Naturally the oregon coast streams produced plenty of cutthroats, a couple in the 12" range, most about 6-8". but, surprisingly, not one single trout in the...

Best spots for beginner fly fishing

Did you make it to the deschutes this weekend? I was tempted to head there or the mckenzie, but didn't really want to deal with subfreezing camping and the dogs, in and out of the water all day. I have yet to fish the deschutes, one of these days i'll get there.

Best spots for beginner fly fishing

I just got in to fly fishing this year as well... The upper clack kills it, trout in the 14"-18" range on the regular. Usually on the euro nymph rod, but some dry action. the upper upper clack and collawash had really good action on the smaller trout as well. can't wait for it to reopen next...
