    Carp talk this Saturday

Hope to see a bunch of you guys there! I am bringing a bunch of carp on the fly hats, and will be staying until about 2 to tie flies. Gotta add a picture to any carp thread. A solid big C fish from 2013.

    ? About fly rods

I use a 7 wt for summers and a 7 wt switch for winters and salmon. Oh, who am I kidding...I don't fish for summer steelhead! Hah...seriously, a 7 wt in Oregon will cover a pretty wide range of fishing.

    Small, light reels under $200?

It is actually a really neat looking reel. I used it once and it has a joan wulf 5 wt dry line on it. Original intent was to use it with my cane rods, but I always use my hardy bougle when hitting small streams with the cane. Simple click and pawl reel, but it looks really nice and classic to me.

    Fly rods $

My opinion...an expensive rod "usually" is more fun to cast then a cheap rod; but it really is a fun to fish question, not really a functional question. My recommendation (take it with a grain of salt from an addict that owns way too many rods) is to start with a mid priced outfit. I fished for...

Chinook Landing Marine Park , carp fishing

The secret is that there are WAY bigger carp in the main river than you will see in the sloughs and channels along the Columbia. The big river carp like bigger forage, and they tend to feed on drop offs, points, or deeper edges where they can dig larger clams etc. Granted, in the spring some...

    Summer carping

They are tough Hobster! Spot 'em, stalk 'em, and put the fly within 4-6 inches of a feeding fish without spooking the fish. Once you manage all that, you just have to detect the take visually. Keep in mind, they can suck in a fly from about 1/3 of their body length away, so watch for gill...

    Summer carping

Just the one logo, but we have an all black, flat brimmed one. I think I have 8-9 of those left. My buddy david did the logo and has been working the designs. I don't even know what else, he has coming.

    Summer carping

We are working on the hats. We should be able to sell some soon. Waiting on a few more colors and styles (though I dig the black and white trucker!). We have an all black that is pretty cool too. Should have something out on those soon. That mirror was awesome...i haven't caught many this...

    Summer carping

Certain things about summer carpin are perfect. Water levels, full sun, etc. but summer also brings the heat that gives the fish the mid day lull (I hate chasing sunning carp). In the summer, I actually pray for a stuff wind to keep some wave action going and mask my approach and cast as well...

    Taking fishing more seriously

There are some carp on the fly guides out in Yakima and by banks lake in WA. Brian martz might be guiding for carp out of pdx, but I am not sure. Guiding on the fly would be tough, success is far from a given even if you can find the fish. I think there is a pretty strong euro carping...

    For Halibuthitman

You should be able to get San Juan's at most fly shops. Most basic nymphs will work in sizes 8-10 as well...I tend to fish smaller flies rather than big crayfish stuff. They are fun on a flyrod! Good luck!
