Recommendations for Steelhead Fly Fishing

I am looking for helpful guidance on the best size and weight rod for steelhead fly fishing. I am new to steelhead fishing and figure with all the great spots in my backyard I should take advantage. I have a 8' 5 wt for trout, but am looking at getting a steelhead setup. I'm mostly a wader and know the Sandy and Clack pretty well. Any advice and insight is GREATLY appreciated!

Good morning Sir.

'If' I had to pick just one rod line weight it would be a "7." Light enough to have a good time with a smaller fish, enough back-bone to handle a one of significant size.

I second Fred's suggestion; good weight for steelheading and hucking streamers for browns. Look for something in a 9' to 10' range for line control.

FWIW (I fish further South than you), I would get an 8 wt. because that will also work for winter fish in full rivers. Also, I'd go with 10 ft as it gives you a great ability to mend and control the line.
