I thought I revive this old thread with some recent details...fished the lake this week and had success with bass fishing. I trolled a wedding ring spinner with worm on the NE shoreline, 10/20 yards from shore. The action was fast. No luck with trout but I really didn't give it a go.
Maybe a dumb question but I'm new to braided lines...picked up a spool to put on a salmon/steelhead rod. Will do a mono backing.
Question: how do you guys run a long (8'-10') bumper with a swivel and still cast? You don't put that swivel through the eyes?
Nice work ChezJ...I tried some spoons a few days ago with no luck. How large, weight, are the spoons? No problem if your technique is top secret....
I was using 1/2 oz silver with some pink stripes (shrimp color)...
I've been hitting it hard after work all month when water levels have been fishable. Nothing for me thus far but I'm new at the non-fly fishing set ups.
Took the kayak out a couple of times at Riverside. Starting to learn how to fish the clack from this thing. When the water level is right...
Of course having someone show you would be best, describing how to cast a fly rod on a thread is tough...Watching youtube vids is good...
Lets assume your after trout or smaller fish; Buy a tippit (tapered leader). These will be 7' to 9' and seem to cost about a million dollars...
Attach this...
I've fished the Clackamas for many years, mostly trout...from the mouth up to and past the confluence with the Collowash River.
I use small mosquito and Adams a patterns (sz 12/14, I tie my own). I’ve always done well…Wooly buggers for lakes.
Look for slacker water fwd/aft of rapid areas but...
