    Pretty epic fishing

Internet grouch of the day says 11lbs-12lbs is much more likely than 15lbs.

Abu Garcia Ambassadeur bait caster question

Excellent reels, I've used a Royal Express 3 which has the higher 6.3 ratio, very nice when drift fishing. Like other Abu traditional reels, the larger profile can feel very strange if used to palming the more popular low-profile reels. It should make an excellent steelhead/coho fishing reel.

    Eagle hatchery

I've spoken with an acquaintance who works the stream for ODFW. She mentioned that the reason is due to Eagle Creek Hatchery being a federal hatchery rather than an Oregon hatchery. Something along the lines of federal hatcheries only being mandated to protect tribal fisheries and when funding...

Finally a Cabela's much closer to home

That was my point. I'm happy to spend a little extra on tackle here and there as a way of supporting smaller businesses.

Finally a Cabela's much closer to home

And now that I think about it, did The Reel Tackle Shop in Sandy recently go out of business?

Finally a Cabela's much closer to home

The major difference between a locally-owned business and a larger chain is in how the money recirculates through town. If you were to spend $100 in either of these two options and then track where their profit goes, the locally-owned business generally recirculates 7x the money back into the...

Some winter killers for a friend what do u think?

Those look really nice. I've been tying a bunch lately and have had great success with Beau Mac style beaded jigs. I found this simple to follow guide online. He uses yarn with these but I've substituted marabou and they look good too.

    Bobbers

But the fixed-floats simply slide up the line just as you would adjust a bobber stop....

    Bobbers

I've caught 10 Steelhead throughout the last month, all by using Thill fixed floats. Their key is the simplicity!

    Bobbers

Use a fixed float, there is one made by Thill. If you add an additional piece of surgical tubing to the top you shouldn't have many problems. The surgical tubing is usually sold near where slinky stuff is sold. West Coast are good if you need to fish deeper with a bobber stop. Beau Mac's...

Any one know of any new coho jig patterns?

If you're really getting 5-8 fish per day I'd stick with what works! My best luck has been with First Strike jigs and also Over the Edge jigs. Over the Edge has their "Dingleberry" which has been very productive for me.

    Winters

As with steelhead, water temperature greatly affects trout activity. When water temps drop below 45 degrees, fish aggressiveness begins to slow down. Fish are much less aggressive when water temps fall into the mid 30's.

First winter steel of the year

Great! That fish looks totally different from the totally red summer buck I caught yesterday. Nice work!
