    Coos Bay thresher shark

I think they're following the mackerel into the bay...

    Wild or re-grow

Without seeing it in person it's hard to tell. Looks flat at the base just in front of it, but hard to tell in a picture. If it's obvious in anyway that it's been clipped, and is completely healed, they go home no matter how much fin is left. I had one that looks very similar to yours and had...

    A drift boat question

Besides the captains chairs with arm rests, the pizza oven is the second best comfort item on the boat. Being able to heat up pastries, cinnamon rolls, or breakfast burritos is extremely nice, especially on those chilly winter steelhead mornings. In a drift boat you often don't have enough room...

    Ivory salmon

It would be really interesting to know if it was farm raised or wild. Just about all salmon served in sushi restaurants is farm raised. It's quite possible that someone figured out that Ivory Kings fetch a premium and didn't add the dye to the food so they could sell "Ivory Salmon".

    Guided trip this weekend!

You'll want to pick a guide based on the general area, but typically they pick which river you'll fish based on conditions and where they think will be best. Also you'll have a tough time finding a quality guide on this short of notice, but they may have some recommendations or have someone...

    South Umpqua carnage

Ouch! Some days just seem to go like that, but eventually they seemed to be followed up by a day where everything goes right. By the way... if you ever have problems with your motor there, or don't have it along, you can always row up to the corner and just fish that little section where you...

    South Umpqua report

I'd like to thank both of you guys for coming down this way and spending a day fishing with me. It's always nice to put a face to the people we talk with on here. Hopefully it will work out so that both of you can join me on the same day for some springer action. It won't be long before they're...

    Smaller water west of Roseburg

Steelhead will be open on the South Umpqua and should be decent fishing if the river is in shape.

    Spinners and spoons on braid

Everyone has their own personal preference when it comes to mono vs braid. Braid adds strength, quicker hooksets, and longer casts but has problems with tip-wrap and no stretch on those extremely hot fish. The best thing I could recommend is to give a high quality braid a chance, and see what...

    Spinners and spoons on braid

Just like everyone else has mentioned... add a barrel swivel with a foot or two of mono leader. It will help to keep line twist down, and if you get hung up you won't be leaving a bunch of braid in the river.

    Chetco Monday and Tuesday

It looks like it may be plunkable today and definitely should be tomorrow. If you're in the area it would probably be worth a shot. The predictions are never right on the money and it can definitely be frustrating at times, but the same goes with weather forecasts. If you watch both though...

    Chetco Monday and Tuesday

Without the dams the fish move a lot faster now. Last year the hatchery had to reprogram the computers to include December for winter runs because they had never gotten one that early before then.

    Chetco Monday and Tuesday

Not many options for this week. Upper Rogue by the hatchery is always fishable though. Still some late summers around, and the first winter steelhead are starting to show up.

    Oregon State Marine Board

If you've moved you have to enter the address that the boat was registered under originally. If you don't then it won't show up and you have to call them.

    Chetco Monday and Tuesday

Definitely not. Looks to be later in the week for plunking, and possibly next weekend for everything else.
