I met John Travolta and his wife in Disneyland back when I was in 6th grade. Disneyland closed off all of Fantasy Island for just them.

I met Jerome Kersey and most of the 2003 Trailblazers team when I was a member of the Fan Advisory Board. I got his autograph on one of those NBA game ball notebooks.

I met Samuel L Jackson at the Fred Meyer Challenge golf tournament in 2001, got him to autograph the cover of my Shaft DVD. (I knew he was going to be there so I came prepared)

I also met Gene Simmons in 1999 at the Kansas City Westin Crown Center, got his autograph but then sold it to some kids in the mall. He grossed me out, I was 20, he was huge and yucky and he flirted with me.

That's about it.

The majority of the 1999 Indiana Pacer basketball team in the downtown Portland Marriot hotel. Saw Ric Smits in the lobby when we first checked in so my wife put on her Reggie Miller Indiana jersey, grabbed a Reggie Miller rookie card and a sharpie and headed for the Elevator, when the doors opened, the only person in the elevator was Reggie Miller!!! She just about $h!t a chicken! She had a nice elevator ride with Reggie, got an autograph and talked B-Ball with him a bit, he's a real nice guy!

I've met a lot of athlete celebrities over the years through different connections.

However, my dog always seems to be the popular one:

-when she was a puppy she met Martell Webster (former Portland Trail Blazer) who laid down on the sidewalk and let her jump all over him while he petted her.

-a few months later she met Channing Fry (another former Trail Blazer) in the Pearl. She rolled over on his feet and he rubbed her belly for a few minutes.

-last summer and this summer she met Howie Long (former NFL Defensive End, Hall of Famer, actor, and current studio analyst for Fox's NFL Sunday pre-game show). He loves dogs, and always comes over to say hi to her and play with her.

-also the last 2 summers she has met Chris Long, Howie's son, 2nd overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft, and current starter for the St Louis Rams. He also loves dogs and squatted down and petted her while she licked his face.

I also had the opportunity to play 9 holes of golf with Terry Porter back in the 1980's, when he was the starting PG for the Blazers. He's a golf enthusiast and a big supporter of JR golf and showed up to our golf lesson to sign autographs and promote youth golf. I was lucky enough to get to play in his foursome.

I've got a few...

When I was going to night school, I occasionally used to frequent a bar after class and played a few billiard games with Tonya Harding. I'm a decent player, so I always won...not surprisingly, Tonya is a very poor loser.

My girlfriend used to work in Pioneer Place and I would occasionally pick her up after work. Sometimes I would arrive early and would spend some time browsing shops. One place I would hang out was a tie shop called, The Knot. I got to know some of the sales staff there and actually purchased several nice ties.

Awhile later, when the Monica Lewinsky scandal erupted, I swore the face plastered all over the news looked familiar. But, I'd never attended Lewis & Clark or spent, ahem, 'time' in the Oval Office ;) and couldn't figure out why she looked so familiar. Then, one news story went into some detail about her past and how she worked at a tie shop in Pioneer Place called, you guessed it, The Knot! I still have those ties I purchased from her...LOL! :)

I had a buddy that took me to a Def Leppard concert the night before I left for a 4 week tour of Europe. He knew several of the roadies and we ended up drinking beer on one of the crew buses after the show. While sitting around, guzzling a few, Joe Elliot popped onto the roadie bus and they offered him a beer. He obliged, sat next to me and we drank and chatted for awhile.

I once played a game of pool against Cliff Robinson of the Blazers at the Candlelight Room. I beat him, but he was actually pretty good at the game and a nice guy to hang with. He was dressed to kill in what was likely $2,000 worth of clothing...his shoes alone probably cost $500!

I once sat and drank a few beers with D'arcy and Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins during their early years.

I once drank a few beers with John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls well before they reached any fame.

I once sat one table removed from both Mary Lou Retton and Timothy Hutton. I knew the hostess at Pazzo and was having dinner with her. She was all excited that Hutton was there and was chatting him up...he bought us both a beer. My sister was a gymnast and idolized Mary Lou, so I mentioned that her Olympic achievements were a huge inspiration to my sister. Retton has an absolutely hideous, shrill laugh...yikes! LOL!

Peter Jacobson presented me with the winning trophy for a junior golf tournament I won when I was 16.

I didn't really meet or talk to the guy because he seemed quite involved with the person he was with, but I had lunch at a dive hot dog joint sitting at a table next to Benicio Del Toro.

I have chatted with both Kara and Adam Goucher on several occasions. I have been on a 13 mile run with Dan Browne. I've chatted with Dathan Ritzenhein when I ran the Eugene Half Marathon (I placed 6th). I was a training partner with a woman, Kelly Jaske, that exploded out of nowhere into the women's national running scene when she placed 2nd in her debut at the U.S. National Women's Half Marathon Championship. She broke her foot in the last mile of that race and kept going...she's tough as nails!

I've many times met with, discussed training, and gotten advice from Ron Tabb, who placed 2nd in the Boston Marathon back in the 80s.

That's about all I can remember for now :)

ETA: I suppose I could also add my connection to some persons of local infamy...

I was good friends with a guy, Reuben Webb, in my late teens/early twenties that eventually went on to rob a bank, serve prison time for it, then later murdered a young guy here in Portland last year; he's now serving 20 years after pleading out.

I was also friends with a local band member, Dale Moerer of the Oily Bloodmen, that was fairly well known in Portland who later ODed on heroin, killing himself, back in the 90s.

Anyone want to hang out with me sometime? ;)

I talked to Bill Clinton for 15 minutes, went to school with Ronnie Dunn of Brooks and Dunn, and fixed the satellite dish for the drummer of the group Alabama.

Sorry to here that. Must have been terrible.jk;)

I lived in Malibu for most of my younger life. I have forgotten all the famous people I've seen and talked to. Burt Lancaster picked me up hitch hiking once. James Garner visited a job site I was at that belonged to the assistant director of the Rockford Files and every time someone would call out 'Jim' we would both answer. David Carridine came over and talked a bit to us at a Malibu cafe'. Nick Nolty came out of a night club, (sht faced) and chatted words, (most of which I did not understand), to me and my bartender buddy who new him. Also I used to live within walking distance from the M.A.S.H set and often watched filming. Of all the celebrities I always felt they were all cool people.

I was in Maui a few years ago at Polo Beach. I don't go anywhere without a fishing pole so I threw a few casts and on the third cast got a nice goatfish, as I landed it I turn around and Dennis Quaid is right behind me ... Pretty cool
