I hope you guys are on board with this, if you think they can't wipe out your Elk Herds come on over here and i'll show you what they've done here.
SALEM, Ore. -- Three hunting groups are supporting the state of Oregon in a lawsuit trying to overturn state authority to shoot wolves that attack livestock.

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the Oregon Hunters Association, and the Oregon chapter of the North American Wild Sheep Foundation have all asked the Oregon Court of Appeals to allow them to file friend of the court briefs supporting the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Conservation groups are trying to overturn a department order to kill two wolves from the Imnaha pack that have been blamed for livestock attacks in northeastern Oregon.

Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation says in a statement that elk herds are struggling to survive in places wolves have been reintroduced.

Conservation groups counter climate change and habitat are more likely causes than wolves

Conservation groups are probably right. Wolves and Elk lived in Oregon together for thousands of years before settlers came in and messed up everything.

To blame wolves for declining elk populations is the same as blaming sealions for declining Columbia salmon populations. (I'm no fan of wolves or sealions, but it's the truth)

I love the fact that wolves are making their way back into Oregon. There will need to be some changes in how things are done in certain areas but I think wolves deserve to exist where they have in existed in the past.
Wow, "Shoot, dig, shut up." Hmm, i don't think it would be appreciated if I were to recommend "cast, snag and shut up" simply because I wanted a Salmon and didn't feel the need to follow no sticking laws or rules.

Grizzly bears are native to Oregon, but stupid humans wiped them out as well. Moose are also native and are just starting to establish small herds is remote areas of NE Oregon.

I think that native species should be allowed to repopulate the state, under certain restrictions. Just because 100 years ago some people decided it was a good idea to rid the state of its native species doesn't make it right. I wouldn't suggest transplanting them anywhere, but if they wander in and create small colonies it can be a good thing.

It is hard to be introduce a predator into the already delicate system. Still, to say that wolves dont deserve to be in oregon, and that they are a pest is close minded. A lot of people here probably support bull trout introduction, and they are also a predator.

Everyone who thinks that wolves are cool should talk to the people who live in the areas and counties that have them. None of the people in Elgin like it, nor in La Grande. Its easy to say "I want wolves in Oregon" when you never have to live in the same woods with them.

So are you trying to tell us that you've talked to all of the citizens who live in the areas and counties that have them. I'm sure there are mixed opinions just like on this forum.

The Timber Wolf, that was native to Oregon, was much smaller and more solitary than the Canadian Grey Wolf that has migrated here. The 75 lb Timber Wolf seldom hunted in packs, wheras the Grey wolf hunts in packs as large as 12, and reach weights of 140 lbs. The Timber Wolf would have far less impact on cattle or elk than the NON-NATIVE Canadian Grey Wolf. Many of Idaho's famed hunting areas have been decimated since the wolves have proliferated there. Without management, the same will happen in Oregon. Too bad we couldn't at least have our native Timber Wolves instead of their larger cousins. I saw my first wolf in Oregon this year, while hunting in northeastern Oregon. It was magnificant, but I hope I never see another in Oregon. They will skew the current balance of wildlife, which will reducing hunting, which will in turn reduce wildlife management dollars, and eventually all wildlife in our state will suffer, not to mention the cattle and sheep industry.
