I will be out there trying to break the skunk that I have been carrying from my steelhead adventures. Stop by if you are out there- I will be in my new brown jacket with a brown vest.

I will be there around 7:30-ish...stubby grandma in a Carhart wannabe brown jacket. Hopefully with a fat trout on the line...:D

Barb, sorry I missed you yesterday. I stopped by the Willamette for a few casts, which turned into two hours of tossing spinners, so I didn't make it to Walter Wirth until 9:30. Saw several brooders at Walter Wirth happily jumping, but I didn't see anyone hook into anything at all for the three hours I was there. Hopefully things will improve when they stock this week.

Eamon;
No worries. I stayed until around 9:30-ish without a nibble. Even the old duffer that sits by the dock every day got disgusted and left around 8:30. I left my warm coat at home because it was not foggy here in Dallas,at least not in my neighborhood. When I got into Salem I knew I was in deep doo-doo with all that fog. I normally carry an old canning pot for a nice warm fire by my chair. Took it out of the van to clean it out...not well prepared at all. I will be back there later though. Some of the resident trout are nice and fat! Hope to see you there.

Hey youse guyz...

Hey youse guyz...

Just want to wish y'all the best o' luck today!

And hopefully the idiot that butted in last week, will stay home!!! (But, if he should somehow show up and then mysteriously go for a dip in the pond...be sure to send us pics!) ;)

BTW, what he did constitues harrassment and that IS a crime. And I'm sure that there will be no "witnesses" if he goes for a swim "accidentally"!!!

Have fun out there,

TD

Thanks troutdude. Hope to meet up with some members at WW soon. You need to come up and wet a line. I'll remember the fire pit so we can fry up some fresh trout...that would be tasty. Never had trout for breakfast, but I'm willing to try it.
I'm not too worried about the dip stick coming back for seconds. Most bullies only get away with it because no one stands up to them and he was a very shocked bully.
Anyway, come on up sometime and join us. Maybe we can organize a WW get together soon.

You're most welcome RainC. You will really like "fresh fried" trout! I've had them many a times right from a stream or lake and into the hot oil. YUMMY!!!:yay:

Have you tried a set up with a "torpedo" shaped bobber and a woolly bugger fly (green or black are best)? Brown also sometimes works as do the same color in a leach pattern. If the floating rig doesn't work...try a small sliding sinker and a swivel and about 3 feet of leader. Then attach one of those flies. It'll drop down, to where the fish are (if the aren't close to the surface with a float).

May I also suggest casting some sort of wobbler (Kastmaster, Little Cleo, etc). I usually have good luck w/ those too.

By the way, I believe that you'll increase your Brooder catch ratio if you fish close to the bank (within a few feet). I'll explain why when we meet in person.

Best wishes,

TD

I was also out at Wirth yesterday. But later in the day around 4pm..... No luck though.

I might be out there today, I'll be the kid in the Realtree camo Carhart with three poles and a longboard

Went to Wirth yesterday and did pretty good, caught about 10 trout only two being around 8 inches, the rest were averaging 12 inches. I'll be out there today, usually fishing between the line disposal and the concrete dock, long hair, longboard, 3 poles, and realtree camo carhart, couldn't miss it ;):lol:

Can you take a 12ft. Aluminum with Electric motor out on Walter Wirth? I saw the sign says Electric motors only, so I was just curious if anyone knows. Or should I call ODFW in Salem.

I hope that you have a strong back! It's a one-half mile hike into the lake. Plus, there is NO launch/ramp either. A raft or tube or toon, is the way to go if you want to float it. You'll see what I mean on your first trip in. Even putting a tube in right now is challenging as it is VERY muddy!

Plus, this "lake" is only 8 acres. Good casting from all around will cover the whole lake. Here is a pic, it's the lake in the middle and has some buildings close by on the NW side.

I already check in to it last month.boats with electic motors only.took my new to me boat out for first time. wanted to get the fish finder set up and figure out the placement of gear ect. trolled for 4 hrs. used everything.not 1 bite.bank fisherman weren't catching anything either.I fished the bank till almost dark.I read in a thread that bobber and jigs work when its slow.maybe bobber and flies.I will try both next time if its slow.

Ummm,I think you're talking about EE Wilson and not Walter Wirth...
I see people putting rafts, small boats and pontoons into WW all the time,no reason not to try. I'm certain there are fish located other places besides the roadside dock.

Whoops...my bad! Sorry....

Whoops...my bad! Sorry....

Sorry my OFF friends. I thought the thread was about EE Wilson near Adair.

But, I now see it was actually about Walter Wirth in Salem.

WHOOPS. I guess my mind went goofy. I've been doubly busy at work this week, and am now in charge of multiple events at church too.

So...to clarify...a boat truly can NOT be taken into EE Wilson' pond.

BUT, you should have no trouble at all with putting a boat in Walter Wirth lake (at least I think you can, I've only been there once or twice).

Sorry about the confusion. I've been chiming in on both threads and obviously got mixed up. Thank you to the OFF gang for setting me straight!

Lol. I was confused for a second too. I started thinking, maybe they Gated off Walter, but I was there about 2 weeks ago. I am still contemplating doing it or not, I want to fish around that middle island. looks like good fishing under the hanging tree limbs and snags. Thanks for the info.

Good luck. I think you'll do well from a boat. Please give us a report upon your return to the computer.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to. I've seen guys out there with around 10 ft with electric motors. You should be good to go.

Stocking

Stocking

They should be stocking WW with over 1000 fish in the next week, and if they follow the same routine that they have been, they'll follow it up a week or so later with about 50-75 brooders. Of course, this is ODFW so you can take that with a grain of salt.
