Time to consider winterizing the boat

Last week I was up on Dixie Creek north of Prairie City elk "camping". The day we left to come home the thermometer was sitting at 8 degrees. That was a sharp reminder to the boat winterized.

I make sure to have the outboard down and drained. I run RV antifreeze through all three bilge pumps, the washdown pump, and the macerator pump. Then I check places where water can pool like the anchor locker, and bilge. The last thing I do is make sure the boat is set on a good angle to drain the winter rains. Luckily it doesn't take long to do this, it's a great hedge against costly damage to the boat, well worth the little time it takes.

It got down to 25 degrees last night out east of Sandy. Very happy that I got the boat ready for that. Now if I can just get myself ready for those cold temps. It sure makes sitting in the rocking chair by the wood stove enjoyable!
